He was killed in 1968. Today people celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day each January.

But in 1964 he gave his famous speech. Dr. King won the Nobel Peace Prize.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a national holiday. The holiday is on the third Monday of January.

Dr. King was born January 15, 1929. Dr. King was a leader of the Civil Rights movement.

Then he went to graduate school to study religion. Then he received his doctorate.

In 1964, the Civil Rights Act was passed. 

It said all people had equal rights under the law.
