Once Upon A Time In West Clermont

During their gifted service ELA class students dive deep into readings and create and refine writing pieces. Recently students have been analyzing Worst Case Scenario books to determine what makes them so fun to read. Later this school year gifted students will write and publish their own Worst Case Scenario guides.

Gifted students didn't quite stack 72 coins in one minute to set a new Guinness World Record, but they sure did have fun trying!

The brain teaser portion of the day is a time for gifted students to explore different kinds of thinking. They develop, use and adapt different strategies to solve problems that involve logical, creative, mathematical, linguistic, analytical and visual thinking challenges.

Gifted students start their day by wondering. They spend some time first observing an item that often piques their curiosity. They take note of questions, inferences, or thoughts they have about the item. Later students use these questions and thoughts to have a class discussion about the Wonder Full Time item.&nbsp;&nbsp;

During their gifted math class students have been studying Guinness World Records. Each week gifted students attempt to set a world record by doing all sorts of tasks. The students then use algebra to analyze their results and compare them to the current world record holder. Students haven't set any new world records yet, but they are certainly giving it their all!

During FDorA, gifted students analyze and discuss a quote. The quote often addresses a challenge the gifted students are experiencing. The name FDorA comes from the portion of the activity where the students infer if the person who said the quote is Fictictous, Dead OR Alive. It has become a WC Gifted Services tradition for the students to loudly drum roll on their desks when the correct FDorA answer is revealed.

R&amp;D (Research and Development) time is an opportunity for gifted students to explore and develop skills that might otherwise not be focussed on in their other gifted services classes. During R&amp;D time students often work in groups to solve complex problems using technology, creativity and logical thinking. This school year gifted students have been exploring several different types of escape rooms. They will eventually create their own escape rooms to share with students from other schools.
