Once Upon A Time In West Clermont

Marching Band- Football season

Best start of my freshman year. I was on Drumline ( Tenors) I was able to preform a couple solos in front of the student section. They really boosted my confidence.

My favorite part of Marching band was being able to make so many great friends and bonds that will last a lifetime. Or all through out highschool.

This is the best thing I could be doing right now. I have a love for band that will never be changed. I am so happy where I am right now. I have always wanted to be apart of drumline sense I was able to pick up drumsticks. I have made a special bond with all of these boys and girl that will never be replaced.

Teaching also does not end for me in my classroom. Over the years I have presented at several conferences (and webinars) on state, national, and international levels either individually or in partnership with the fellow teachers, museums, and organizations I work with on a regular basis.

My husband and I started teaching at West Clermont in 2017. We love teaching in the community we are a part of! All four of our children go to (or will go to) Clough Pike Elementary. 

Juniors and how they have overcome the challenges they've encountered this school year.

Words by Ansh P. Patel, Junior Class President Our high school experience has been anything but normal. Our freshman year was cut short by the start of the pandemic. Months later, the pandemic was still there. Our sophomore year was completely changed by COVID with many online/remote days. The junior class has persisted and is now over halfway done with high school. Soon we'll be onto senior year and be doing college applications along with scholarships. Thank you to the teachers and staff for making our experience at West Clermont as memorable as possible.

I came from Withamsvill Tabasco which we called WT and that was my elementary school that I had been at my whole life growing up.I had a lot of memories from there with my teachers who made me wanna be curtain things when i grow up and my friends who are still really close to me to this day.

Aside from Holocaust Education, I have also been actively involved in the establishment of the PBIS program at WCHS.  PBIS is a program that rewards positive behavior and promotes community within the building. Previously, PBIS was predominately found in elementary schools, but has trickled up into the secondary level over the years. Along with contributing to the establishment of our middle and high school programs, I have also presented at conferences with colleagues at the state and national level in effort to help other districts establish effective programs at their schools.

My West Clermont experience Robin Hornberger

I am a trumpet player in the West Clermont High School Marching Band.  We had a fantastic season and we even went to marching band championships for our class.  I also am a trumpet player in the highest band in the high school, Symphonic 1 band.

I am in jazz band for our high school and I also belong to the two bible study clubs.  The way and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.  They are great bible studies with amazing leaders and great friends.  

And amazing friends that I couldn't even ask for anyone better to spend my time with

My brother was my number one supporter throughout this whole season. He tried so hard to make it to all my competitions and games to watch me proform. Thank you Peyton

Words by Allison Nguyen Advisors in the council also contribute to the success of students and the events held. Without the advisors, it's difficult for students to get anything done due to the fact that adults must stay to supervise. They're definitely troopers! Our executive council and class officers are extremely responsible and make sure to keep everyone in check. Without them, everyone would be in chaos! Truly an amazing group of people the whole council is. With the creative ideas that they come up with and the collective agreement, there is not a more amazing group of students and staff!

Words by Allison Nguyen Student council has come a long way since everything started. As new members continue to come in every year, we become one big family that continues to grow every single year. With the laughter and ideas we share, it has become a safe space among many. During our meetings, we discuss different events coming up. Our biggest event is homecoming. Some may ask, "What does student council have to do with homecoming?" Well, that is a great question. Members split up into committees in order to plan to decorate each part of the high school to make everything even more magical. Along with this, members clean up after the dance, which contributes a great deal. Along with this event, Student Council also plays a part in the annual Giving Tree during Christmas time. The group goes to Target and splits up into their classes in order to buy specific families wants and needs. The events that the council partakes in can become very enjoyable, and it's always something that people can look forward to!

In fourth grade, my family packed up our bags and moved from our house in Anderson to a new neighborhood in West Clermont. Not only was it our house that changed, but now me and my siblings would be students of WC. At first I took the change of schools poorly. I missed my friends, I missed the teachers I had grown up with, I missed the building. I attended Clough Pike elementary and was welcomed as a new student with promising and optimistic outlooks. I quickly found people to surround myself with and teachers that made learning fun and school enjoyable.

Amelia High School provided me with so many valuable experiences from the variety of classes I taught, which has led me to being able to develop and teach one of the only stand alone Holocaust Studies classes in a public school in the tristate area. The more I taught Night to my English I classes, the more interested I became in Holocaust education. I began participating in professional development through our local museum here in Cincinnati, and eventually proposed developing a course when I had the chance to go to Israel and study at the world Holocaust memorial, Yad Vashem. The district was supportive of this proposal, and I piloted a watered down version of the course with my last class of English I students at Amelia. When WCHS opened its doors, it was offered as an elective, but has since been shifted to an elective that counts as half of an English credit.

We are lucky to have incredible students and staff at West Clermont High School. These are their stories.

Joan Lewis and Connie Wallace brought me to my passion: Union Work! Without them getting me involved, I would be far less fulfilled in life.

International Baccalaureate was my teaching dream! Those students fine tuned Ms. Recker into the best teacher I could be!

Mrs. Williams also teaches math and is next door. Sometimes we come to school in matching clothes!

Going into Middle School and Finding My Place as a Leader

Middle school can be a tough time for everyone. You find who you are, make mistakes and form a base to who you want to be. Through clubs, groups and classroom activities I found a passion to be a leader. Speaking for the class, paving the way seemed like something I excelled in and enjoyed doing. 

WCMS was a lot of fun years that I had spent with many of my friends and teachers over all 3 years.It was a big transition for me going from a fun year to going to a new school that is very big and full of new experiences.My first year of high school has been very fun and exiting along with many emotions along the way with my best friends and my teachers and new people i have met.

Not only do students have a story, but teachers have a West Clermont story, too! WCHS teachers support the Cincinnati Bengals!

In sixth grade I was on the West Clermont Hope Squad, and we went to a convention center with GrantUsHope and we met everyone in charge there. They had lots of food trucks, other foods, and tons of very nice people. My teacher was Mrs.McClure and there were a lot of parent chaperons. At the beginning of the trip we all got tickets, you had to keep track of it. We didn't know what for yet. A lot of people lost theirs, but I still had mine. At the end of the thing there was a raffle. They started reading the last ticket, and my numbers were matching. I had lost hope though because I was in a room full of a couple hundred people that could have won. But I won. I won a $50 amazon gift card and I felt amazing. It was a great experience with West Clermont.

After my first year, a lot changed in the program. The band got bigger and better, and though David Abraham had to leave, our band director had a new percussion instructor in mind. That man was Ryan Reed. Now I would like to shout out Chloe Robinson, Emma Goebel, Brendan Haught and Charlie Hayes.

My West Clermont journey began in January of 2009 when a long-term sub job was timed perfectly with the end of my student teaching. I started my career with English I, Cultural Studies, and a Yearbook class. It was quite a surprise when I learned that the yearbook only had four pages 'completed,' and certainly added to the challenges that came with being a long-term substitute teacher. AHS was a pretty tight knit community, and I still keep up with many of my former students to this day.

Sophomore Student Council and Their Journey

Words by Zayden Ogletree, Sophomore Class Representative Collectively as a Sophomore Class, we have been through some challenging situations. Last year, our class president was online, which made running student council super hard. This year, we get to enjoy Hajir each week! Luckily, our persistent works paid off when our class won the Homecoming Float contest and the "Most Spirited Class!" Along with this, COVID-19 truly affected us, as it did the rest of the world. We had to comply with online meetings at times. We worked very hard and followed precautions in order to achieve the normal routine we have now. Here we are, meeting together, each week to lead the school and have a good time.

I began my journey in Kentucky, where I had started at an elementary school named Yealey. When I had to move for one of the first times in my life away from my friends and people I had grown so close to, I was in 3rd grade. After I moved, I had discovered an entirely new world that is the West Clermont School District. After a remarkable and memorable experience in Withamsville-Tobasco Elementary, I was in awe at the amazing staff and students that had helped me along the way. Soon after going into sixth grade, I began to get bullied constantly, but even with all of the bad and hurtful times, I decided to stick around for the fun times that I would soon have with my friends. Starting around seventh grade, I had become quite depressed and really didn't want to hang out with anyone. And with time passing by, so did my freshman and sophomore years. COVID-19 was a change from the mundane (even though it was a huge thing that caused issues for everyone), and it helped me realised what I really had in life. Starting in my present year, I was happy to announce that I had cured my depression, and with family and friends to support me, I was well on my way to where I am now.

Words by Audry Suggs, Freshman Class Historian Freshman year is an eye opener on many aspects of life. You have a humbling amount of friend group altercations. You find yourself as a person, you learn how to find motivation in&nbsp;the least motivating times.&nbsp;Everything piles on making for very stressful times, trying to get credits and solid grades.&nbsp;Being in student council has brought friendship and mentor from upperclassmen and teachers.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

My Favorite WC story that I would like to share is about my English II Honors class that I am currently taking. My teacher is Mrs. Walters and she has been such a great teacher all year. The specific story though would be how she has given me a love for reading. During class we get to read for ten minutes and instead of doing assigned books we get to read whatever we want. I have grown to love reading so much because I am not forced to read a certain book for school, I can read what I want to read. After we finish a book we get to do a book talk for the class and tell everyone in the class what the book is about, without spoiling the book of course. But from that experience I have grown to love reading and I find it calming and I can enjoy it.

Technology=New Levels of Cute Creative Lessons!

When covid struck, we went back to square one. During remote learning, we returned to basic fundamentals. It was a grind, but we came out stronger for that year's marching season. We considered focusing on music and becoming one larger front ensemble, but in the end we kept the drumline.

In 7th grade I started cross country to condition for basketball. My parents then found out that I'm a natural runner so then I did continued to do cross country because my parents make me. I did track in 8th grade after basketball season and I loved. I still continue to do basketball and track I love track its so much fun. I plan on going to UNC to become a veterinarian, with the hope of a basketball scholarship. High school is interesting its bigger than the middle school it has these huge steps in the main way that I tripped and got scare from. I made new friends there amazing very funny and nice. Some are annoying but I tolerate them so its ok. High school is pretty fun I love my teachers there nice. I love the my art classes there very nice and they are helping me to become a better drawer/painter.

West Clermont lets me be ME! West Clermont Staff care about every student and have made a lasting impact on me! WC is a close knit community of individuals ready to show their pride! 

Ever since Kindergarten back in 2011 I have been a member of the West Clermont Community. I am even closer with WC since my father works at the high school as a math teacher! He loves what he does and treats every kid like his own. I truly look up to him! I have made so many new friends and created new interests through the wide variety of opportunities at WC!

My first year of high school I did the online academy. When I went back for my Sophomore year it was very different. I didn't really know anyone since I hadn't been in school for a year and a half. When I actually went for my first week or so, my classmates and teachers were very welcoming and I made some new friends. I have had a good time so far in school and I hope I can continue that the rest of my high school years.

My transition was pretty smooth. It was a struggle to find my classes for the first week, but then think got easier and I learned the whole building!

I have taught Algebra II and Algebra III in this room for the past three years.

Thank you to our members in the class of '22. You make this activity so impactful and you inspire me to keep doing it, wherever that takes me.

Some unique experiences would probably be my freshman year of football since I had played football for 5 years out in Hillsboro but it was a total different version of the game of football that i played when it came to team size and how we did things.I had coaches that made me wanna continue football for longer and that made me have the want to get better and never give up

Under the direction of David Abraham, our section learned the fundamentals and kicked off our traditions and our expectations of excellence. I can't thank those upperclassmen enough, including Jake Hess, Trent Larbes and others. When our class joined in 2018, they supported us on and off the field.

Words by Isabel Stone If there is one thing these past four years have taught us, it's that anything is possible. Graduation day felt so far away our freshman year, but now it is just less than 95 days away. Preparing for the next steps did not just begin this year. It started back in kindergarten. It has not been an easy journey, but that is what makes it unique. Thank you to the great staff at all our West Clermont Schools for everything they have taught us and prepared us for. As we move to the next chapter we hope next year’s seniors can reflect on their past experiences here, and see how lucky everyone is to have experienced schooling here.&nbsp;

I was born here in Cincinnati and went to Willowville Elementary.  In middle school I went to Glen Este for one year and then two years at West Clermont Middle School.  Now I attend West Clermont High School and will graduate here.  I have a Mom, Dad, and Brother.  I have a lot of aunts and uncles because my Dad has seven siblings.  I play basketball but not for the school because I have a team that I've been playing with for 5 plus years and I have to stay loyal.  Anyways that's just a little bit about me.

Freshman High School Story -Peyton Korte

WCHS has been a fun experience so far. Once you find the right people, school is a lot more enjoyable. For me, that was with the band. The Marching Band community was welcoming from day one. I have always been an introvert- and was nervous about coming to a new school and to try an extra curricular. The first day that I walked through the band doors for Marching Band, I instantly felt at home and that I belonged. You get to meet up to about 150 different faces that are all funny, kind, and show leadership among others.

The one who really makes Marching Band come alive, and the one who inspires me, is Mr. Fischer. Mr. Fischer not only makes band about music, but also makes it a place where people can become a better person from the three words of; Grit, Integrity, and Empathy.

This was my first school dance. I wasn't able to go to any middle school dances. This was my first dance and It was really fun.

Immediately into attending WC, I was offered opportunities to advance my learning. This was something that was not offered at my other school. In fourth and fifth grade I was put into STEM. Going into middle school I still aimed for the highest and at the end of sixth grade, I took the Algebra placement test. I started taking Algebra in seventh grade which has put me two years ahead in Math.

My 'Baron Beginnings' are some of my fondest memories as an educator, and provided me with a solid foundation to transition into our WCHS PACK. I have had a variety of educational experiences and opportunities during my tenure, and look forward to more in the years to come, but the what I look most forward to is working with our amazing students, colleagues, and friends here at WCHS. I'm proud to be part of this ever-evolving story of our community and while I'm passionate about teaching, I'm just as passionate about what learning from everyone around me. What's YOUR story as a fellow PACK member?

Science is my niche. I have always loved exploring new things and learning about how the world and our bodies work. WC lets me enroll and explore courses related to what I want to do. I take Biomedical Science and even compete in competions through HOSA - Future Health Professionals.

       I have had a spectacular time at West Clermont. This school easy to adapt to and has very welcoming staff and students. I moved here to West Clermont in seventh grade, and I think it was the best thing that I ever did. I used to go to Bethel-Tate and it was a great school, but I lived closer to West Clermont and My family heard at how great the school was going to be. Here at West Clermont this school can be a little intimidating but once you take a tour around the school and have a good look around then it will feel like home. It really is an awesome place to grow you education and family. The sports programs are spectacular too. There are plenty of opportunities and chances to become the best version of you. This school has done a lot of impact on my life and I'm glad I can be a student and part of this community all at once.

We hate to go, but we couldn't ask for better underclassmen to hand the program off to. It's been an honor to get to know these people, and we got their backs, all the way.

As a freshman student at West Clermont High School, I have already set my roots in what I want to do and my high school path of success. By running for student council, I was elected class president and strive to create an empowering learning environment. Staying driven and focused, I throw my effort into my grades as I aspire to go to college and pursue a career in Oceanography. While not with my specific field of research, WC also does an exemplary job of giving me the resources to widen my spectrum of potential careers. 

We have a competition/ something to due with band every weekend of March going into April. How fun :)

My West Clermont Experience.

Hello, my name is Paige Grunder. I am a freshman here at WCHS. I started at Summerside elementary. Went to WCMS now I am here. A little bit to know about me :) I am in Marching band ( drumline) I have a brother who is a senior here. My future goals is to go to UC  main join there Marching band. I want to receive my Bachelor of Arts in Music. I hope to join DCI and take up some side jobs as a photographer. 

In this book will be some memories, so far of my freshman year. I hope you enjoy.

Being part of the PACK at WCHS has evolved beyond the normal school day for me.  I have taken advantage of numerous learning opportunities outside of WCHS.  In 2016, I completed a fellowship at Columbia University, attended a program at the United States Holocaust and Memorial Museum in D.C., and was part of a select group of teachers (through our local museum) to participate in an an experience with Yahad in Unum - a group dedicated to uncovering the unmarked mass graves from Einsatzgruppen murders.  My work with these various people and organizations continues today.

I love sunrises for many different reasons. They always give me a great start to my day. When I go into the parking lot I always stop and take a picture of the sky

Special Thank You

This is a special thank you to my brother Peyton. Class 22' He has always been there for me especially starting highschool. I was called " Grunders sister" more then my literal name. He set a foundation for me and always trying to guide me through the best highschool experience I can have. Instead of pretending he doesn't know me, he makes sure everyone knows that we are brother and sister. He is my number one supporter especially with all of my band events. I will miss him dearly when he moves onto college. I am so incredibly proud of you making it into Arkansas University. Enjoy your senior year.

My Story is about one of my best high school teacher so far Ms.Klump! She was my first semester Art foundations 1 teacher. Not only did she help me know how to do some cool art things she was there to talk whenever I needed it or whenever anyone needed it. If you are nice to her you can always talk to her about your problems or even if you are just having a bad day. Me and her always would talk about the most random and fun things every day during 7th bell. I am very sad I don't have her as a teacher anymore but I still do get to say hi sometimes and I see her in the halls between classes. My other teacher us Mr.Bauer he was the same as Ms.Klump, always there fore me and willing to talk and taught me first semester for health, and last but not least... Mr.Heikenfeild he was a super fun and understanding supportive teacher I also had him first semester and I miss them all so much,  they are amazing teachers!
