Where D-Day Took Place
On June 6, 1944 the D-Day operation took place in Normandy, France. It was known to be the largest invasion in human history. The reason why is because air, land and sea forces of the allied armies were brought together.
The Amount Of Soldiers At D-Day
The amount of soldiers were about 156,000 soldiers. That was a combination of The U.S, British and Canadian troops. While the German had only 50,000 soldiers.
The amount of soldiers killed on the Allied side was about 4,413 Allied troops. The fatalities on the German side was much worse, it was an estimate of 4,000-9,000 Germans were killed in the battle of D-Day.
How D-Day Started
The attack of D-Day started off with the Allied planes and warships bombarded the positions of the German on the coastline. The damage that was dealt to the Germans in the coastlines was to damage the defenses making it easier for troops to get ashore.
General Dwight D. Eisenhower
The Supreme Allied Commander General Dwight D. Eisenhower gave the the okay for the largest military operation in history. By daybreak 18,000 British and Americans parachutists soldiers were already in the ground.
The Hero Of D-Day
Waverly Bernard Woodson Jr. Is an African American corporal that was ashore on Omaha beach in Normandy on D-Day. Besides the fact that he was wounded during the landing, what he did was set up an aid station. For the next 30 hours he treated many soldiers, saved many lives in the prosses.
