Who is Malala?

Malala is a young girl who stood up for what was right.

Malala loved talking to her dad when she was little.

Malala was a kind loving person, but sadly, her birth didn't get a big party because she wasn't a boy! Malala grew up in a town called "Mingora". A few years after her birth, she was a big sister! She had a little brother named Khushal. And right after that, she got another brother! His name was Atal. It was a happy family! Malala and her friends had a lot of good times together. Malala loved watching her favorite TV shows with her family! Until... Malala found out that a country was in a war! But the war decided to come to Mingora! Now, women who wanted to go outside of their house had to be with a man or they would be killed! And, to make it worse, women had to cover themselves when they went outside with a man. And when I said that only women had to do this, it turns out that girls (including Malala) had to do it too! Imagine if you got killed when you were just a little kid!

What is happening to women?🤔

Now, people were treating women even more than they already did! Now, women were not allowed to vote! And, they could not hold jobs. There would no longer be female doctors, and they couldn't even go to hospitals! That meant that if a female was sick, they could NOT be treated! Music and dancing was banned, All TVs, CDs, and computers would be burned. Only GIRLS were only allowed to read religious books. Girls schools would be destroyed if they were not closed,teachers and principals who continued to teach girls would be punished. But Malala did not stop going to school. The war went on through 2008. Soon, Malala was put in a blog called, "Diary of a Pakistani School Girl." Malala would write notes and read them to the reporter every day on the phone. She would tell him how she and her friends were feeling and what was going on at home and in school. The reporter would put her words onto the website. It was almost winter break but the girls were worried that their school might not reopen after winter break. There was a bombing at night and the girls were afraid. They were afraid that there school might be destroyed like so many other schools in Mingora....

Dangerous Times🤕

Malala kept on talking about how she was feeling about the war. On October 9, 2012, she was finally allowed to go back to school! She raced to the bus. She and her friends were so happy! She sat on the bus with her friends. Everyone was singing and talking about tests. Suddenly the bus stopped, and a man with a gun leaned into the back of the bus. "Who is Malala?" the man asked. Some of the girls on the bus glanced at Malala. The man watched their eyes. He knew the girl they were looking at must be the girl he was searching for. The man pointed the gun at Malala and pulled a trigger. Was she still alive? Malala remembered very little after that. Malala's picture was all over the newspapers. A local Taliban man had shot Malala , the articles said. No one could believe that a young girl had been shot! Neither can I! Malala was famous around the world now! On October 16, Malala woke up. Malala looked around and suddenly realized that she was in a hospital. She couldn't talk because the doctors had put a tube in her mouth so she could breath. Someone brought out a board with the alphabet. Malala was able to spell out "country" and, "father". Malala started to talk. The doctors were very delighted that she could speak. Finally, her family came. When Malala was done healing, they had to move to Birmingham, England. Malala still misted her house very much. Everything was so different! But when she was sad, she talked to her friends on her new computer. Malala was safe at last! No more bombs, no more guns. She was finally safe!

My name is Tabitha Kelly. This is not actually the first book I made! On Google docs, I made a book about a warrior cat growing up. WARNING: THAT BOOK DOES NOT HAVE A HAPPY ENDING. IT INCLUDES DEATH AND A LOT OF SADNESS. (But I love it!) I grew up reading graphic novels. Like Guts, and Smile, you get it. I'm 8 years old and LOVE the color green. I have been reading a book about Malala and our class is writing biographies about the people we are reading about. So, I made a book about Malala! Books are the best! And I want to share that with everyone.
