Not so fun funfair

It was a normal morning for the Murphy family. Mike and Emma were up and getting ready for the day. They got their breakfast, then waited for the bus like always. They noticed loads of posters but did not have time to read them as they had to get on the bus.

Once they got to school the kids separated and went with their friends to class. Emma and her friends made their way to the 6th class classroom and Mike and his friends went to the 4th class classroom. Everyone was whispering and talking about something as Emma, Mike and their friends walked the hallways, but that all stopped as the Principal came into the hall and threatened everyone with no break time.

In Emma’s class, everyone just started talking again, she had heard the word ’funfair’ being thrown around so obviously, she had to find out more as there hadn’t been a funfair in their town for years.

When Emma’s teacher had left the room to talk to the 5th class teacher, Emma took the opportunity to turn around to one of her classmates. As there was no time for small talk, Emma just asked straight up, “Why is everyone talking about a funfair?” The girl answered, “Did you not see it when you were coming into school? It’s in the middle of town, everyone passed it this morning!” The teacher came back into the room so Emma didn’t have time to ask all her many questions.

For the rest of class, Emma was thinking about the funfair. She thought to herself that maybe she had in fact passed a funfair this morning but just didn’t realise it because when she was in the car she was on her phone with her AirPods in, watching Netflix. Mike probably didn’t see the funfair either as he was asleep in the car, as usual. Emma couldn’t understand though how her Mom didn’t spot the funfair as she was driving the car.

Emma had to get home ASAP to find out what she could about the funfair. Before getting on the bus, Emma had to make a quick pit stop at her locker, not only to get her stuff but also to talk to her best friend / neighbour /classmate, Laura.

Emma told Laura about everything that had happened in class, so, of course, she told her about the funfair that she had heard about. By the end of the conversation with Laura, they had made plans to meet up at the funfair that evening.

Emma, Mike, and Laura all got on the bus right on time, and all the way home they were not only gossiping, for a change but instead talking about something WAY more important - the Funfair. When they got off the bus they all went to their own houses to try to convince their parents to let them go to the funfair that night.

Laura had a lot of convincing to do with her Mom, but Emma and Mike’s Mom said, “Yes!” straight away. She even offered to give them money for the rides and offered to drive them there. The kids were really suspicious about why their Mom was letting them go so easily but it turned out that she wasn’t going to be able to stay there with them as she had to collect their Dad from the airport. Laura’s Mom eventually let Laura go along to the funfair, but she had thought that Emma and Mike’s Mom was going to be there.

Next thing the kids knew, they were in Emma and Mike’s Mom’s car with twenty euros each, about to go have the best or worst night of their lives.

As the car was driving past the funfair before being dropped off, all the kids’ thoughts changed from, “Yey, we are going to a funfair!” to “OMG we are driving into a torture zone!” in a matter of seconds. The kids all stood outside the funfair after being dropped off. Now, where to begin? First of all, the fun part of the funfair sign at the entrance was broken. The person who was supposed to be selling tickets at the entrance looked dead, but hopefully, he was just asleep. They each left ten euros beside the box of tokens and took their ten tokens. They didn’t want to be stealing after all.
They then went on into the funfair. There was no one else at the funfair, except for the workers. They all agreed that it was really creepy, but they just carried on with making it the best of their night. The three kids started off by making their way over to the carnival games because Mike and Laura wanted to play the basketball hoops game. Emma had no interest in that game so she just watched Mike and Laura play. They both gave two euros each to the depressed-looking man behind the stall counter. The man gave the kids three basketballs each in return for their two euros.

Laura just threw her three basketballs straight at the hoop with no thought whatsoever and somehow came out of it with a really cute teddy bear. Mike on the other hand was going as slow as a snail. They were at that stall for a good ten minutes and in that ten minutes, Mike had only thrown one of his three balls. Laura and Emma did not have the patience for Mike’s pace so they decided to go for a walk around to see what else there was at the fair.

As Laura and Emma walked around every ride looked really broken except for the Ferris wheel and the only reason that didn’t look broken was because of the lights on it. The girls decided to go back to the basketball hoop game to get Mike so that they could all attempt to go on the Ferris wheel together. Emma and Laura figured that Mike would have to be done by now as they were gone for a good fifteen minutes.

When the girls got to the basketball hoop game stall Mike was not there. Emma started to get really scared as she thought he might have been kidnapped, but Laura was sure that Mike was just playing a prank on them. Emma ran up to the corner in fear and then “BOO!” Mike jumped out of the hook-a-duck stand. Emma had a mixed range of emotions, she was scared, happy, and slightly less panicked, but with all of those emotions, Emma fainted.

There was no need to worry though, she came back to life again after a few minutes. That gave Laura just enough time to tell Mike about the Ferris wheel and their plan about going on it.

Once Emma woke up, Mike and Laura didn’t give her a minute to rest, they just said, "Come on, we are going on the Ferris wheel now, we have waited for you for long enough!” Emma was obviously kind of confused after waking from fainting, but she just went along with what Mike and Laura were saying.
