This is a love story of sohni and mahiwal. Sohni is aa daughter of a kumhar who lives in Gujrat. She grew up and helped her father to decorate his pots.

One day a rich trader whose name is izzat baig, came to Gujrat. He saw sohni at the shop. Just to get a glimpse of shoni he would buying the water pitchers everyday. He spend all his money on his love and took up the job of a servant in her house. He would take their buffaloes for grazing. Soon he came tp be known as Mahiwal. 
                                    

                                     After sometime sohni too lost her heart to mahiwal. It was not acceptable that a daughter from this community would marry an outsider, So her parents immediately arranged her marriage with another potter. On the day of marriage sohni was sent off to her husband`s house. Mahiwal started living across the river chenab from Sohni`s new house. Sohni was not accepting this marriage and the lovers meet on the riverside with the help of an inverted hardbake pithcher at night. 
                                                     

 
                                                      One day sohni`s sister-in-law followed her and saw the hiding place where they meet. Instead of telling sohni`s husband she replaced her hard baked pitcher to an unbaked one. That night when sohni tried to cross the river with the help of pitcher, it dissolved in water and sohni drowned. From the other side of river , mahiwal saw sohni drowning and jumped into the river to save her and drowned as well. Thus the lover were reunited in death
