Synopsis
Handmaids Tale is a futuristic dystopian novel by Margaret Atwood that takes the readers through the life of the Offred, the main character, and her struggles living in such a dystopian society that undermines women's reproductive rights. Due to the dangerously low reproduction rates, Handmaids such as Offred are assigned to bear children for couples who have high power and status, that have trouble conceiving. While reading this book you will soon realise that Margaret Atwood's purpose of writing the Handmaids Tale is to express the dangers that women face of getting their rights taken away and how quickly it happens.
Recommendation
We would recommend the Handmaids Tale to anyone who appreciates a good story line and whomever is interested in futuristic dystopian books! In our group, most of the members claimed the book was between 6-8 out of ten. Andrew said "6.5/10. I would recommend it if you are truly interested in dystopian and hypothetical reads. I think it brings to light a lot of issues society has and may have if we are not careful" The point five coming from the texture of the book cover. However Olivia claimed it was "8.6/10 because it was a very good story line and very descriptive", however some parts she thought were unnecessary to the plot and took away from the reader's interest.
