What Is It?
The Great Wall of China has many sections that were each built and repaired over a time of 2,300 years. The wall in total is 13,170 miles! That might be one of the reasons why it took so long to build. Another reason might be because it was attacked by raiders or Mongols a lot.

Around one million soldiers and workers built the Qin Walls which were a section or start of how the Great Wall of China.
Later Dynasties
King Zheng died which ended the Qin dynasty or their power.
Though, bringing the subject back up about the Mongols, the Great Wall of China was actually built to protect China from raiders and Mongols.
The Han dynasty soon rose and built more onto the wall, adding around 5,500 miles more!
Then soon the Han dynasty fell too, and China split into smaller dynasties with less control or power.
This caused wars among different dynasties in China.
The Ming
Then the Ming dynasty rose, there were a lot of dynasties over the years in China. But when the Ming dynasty had power though the walls were now in terrible state after all the civil wars and raiders. So the Ming dynasty helped rebuild and repair the walls.
The Great Wall Today
Of course, over time there was a new dynasty and the Ming dynasty fell and the wall was left abandoned. Now the Chinese government are trying to keep, or preserve the Great Wall of China.
