By Jamie Foleyl was woken at eight o clock to the sound of my irritating alarm. Only this time, it wasn't as irritating as usual. l was going to my cousin's house. I was exhilarated as this normally only happened once a month. l couldn't wait, we had planned to go exploring. On the way up it was a boring two hour drive but time went by rather quickly. By the time we arrived my back was stiff from sitting in the car for so long. l stepped out of the car in a good mood as l glared up at their humongous house. l was shocked by the size of the house since the extension was built that over looked the hills. l entered the house and was immediately greeted by my aunt and uncle.
My aunt was a jolly woman with a bright red face. She had dark green eyes and long brown hair. She wore long skinny glasses and a large black dress with flowers scattered all over it.
My uncle was a tall and skinny man with short black hair who always wore a suit and shiny brown shoes. He had bright blue eyes, short black hair and mostly smiled.

Robert, who was my cousin was a funny person with light brown hair and a narrow face, he had small green eyes and a long nose. Robert mostly wore football jerseys.
When we met, we greeted each other before having lunch. We ate lasagne and I wolfed it down, it tasted delicious. By the time Robert had finished I had been sitting there for 5 minutes. After everyone had finished, Robert and l decided to go outside. After about half an hour Robert suggested we go exploring before it got dark. I agreed with this, and so we left. We hopped on our bikes and set off. As we cycled out through the rusty brown gates, l could feel the cool breeze of the Autumn air blowing in my face. As we cycled l could feel myself bouncing from the stones beneath me on the road. After two hours of cycling, l decided that we should turn back as it was getting dark. Robert wasn't too keen on the idea, but l eventually convinced him. On the way back l noticed a mysterious road that I hadn’t seen on the way up. Not even Robert who lived in this area had seen this road before. Surprised and confused, Robert stopped his bike.

He then suddenly turned down the road without saying a word. Frustrated, and without a choice l foIIowed him.
As we cycled down the road l began to feel an eerie feeling around the place. We cycled on through the trees that seemed to be moving out of my way to let me past. Eventually there was a clearance in the tree lined road which opened up my view. From there the road began to feel bumpier and more worn than before. There was large sharp stones which I did my best to avoid. I noticed a shadow in the distance but couldn’t quite work out what it was. l squinted my eyes and could just about make out an outrageously large building. l questioned Robert to see if he could see it too and he could. l was still perplexed as to what it was though. As l went on the building seemed to be moving further away.

Eventually I could just about make out what appeared to be a school. An abandoned school at that. Although I knew it was getting dark l felt the urge to explore it. After what felt like hours we finally arrived at the gigantic abandoned school. l asked Robert if he wanted to go in and he just nodded as if to say yes. Robert and l left our bikes on the ground and stepped cautiously into the building which from close up, looked like a mix of a school and a hospital.

It was dark inside and the only light was coming from the smashed boarded up windows. There were dust particles floating around the ruined hallway which contained creaky metal lockers. l spotted a classroom further on down the hallway. Just as l was heading to explore the classroom, l heard Robert say “We should go back now because it will be dark by five”. This time he had to follow me. I stepped foot into the classroom to see rotten wooden tables with ancient books placed neatly on top that had folded edges. The blackboard still had faded writing on it and l was afraid that the floorboards would collapse. It was almost like everyone had just got up and left. I checked my watch, it had just gone 3 o’clock. Suddenly the bell rang for home time. I could hear children bursting out the doors, screaming and laughing. I glanced at the yard, but there was nobody there.
