Of course it was that night. The one thing I feared most. On the night before my twelfth birthday, I was
lying in my bed thinking about all the things I could get. I was so tired that every thought seemed to
make my eyes droop lower and lower, until they closed. The endless darkness made me fall into a deep sleep.

Then, the wall started shaking. It came in my direction, trapping me. I jumped out of my bed wondering why my whole room was shaking. But then it hit me, it was an earthquake.
My feet were burning from running against the cold stubborn wood flooring, but I had to keep going. Just as I pushed the door out of my way it fell to the ground with a huge bang. My parents ran out of their room along with my brother. “What do we do!!” I yelled over all the noise. “Run!” Dad screamed. We all ran down the stairs. I was about to open the front door but a huge cabinet fell and blocked it.
I instantly ran
to the kitchen with my hands covering my head. I lifted myself up onto the counter and cracked open a
window. “I saw my family racing after me. “Come on” I hurried. I crawled through the window and jumped
down. I ran out of the driveway in my bare feet. The stones were making my feet bleed and my hands were
cold and red.

The whole ground was shaking. Houses were collapsing, trees were falling. I was in despair
looking at everything for the last time that I didn’t notice a tree falling towards me. I screamed, closed my
eyes and fell to the ground.

I opened my eyes and saw the tree fall right in front of me. I was so lucky. But my foot was caught
underneath. I was in such agony. I kept trying and trying to pull my leg out but it wouldn’t move.

Just then, the earthquake started to get worse. The loud noises began to get ear shrieking. I then notice
gray clouds hovering over me. I started to panic. My leg was stuck. I pulled and pulled but it wouldn’t come
out. I broke down into tears. I thought I was going to die. Bad memories were popping into my head which
made me feel so guilty and upset. Everything got louder and louder. The thunder crackled in a long
crescendo and the lightning started to strike.

But then it started to rain. I thought it was the universe mimicking me, but it poured down realy hard.
Then I noticed that my leg felt a bit slippy. So I tried pulling it out one more time, and it worked. I stood
up, jumped over the tree and ran out onto the road.

My whole body was burning and I was drenched from head to toe. All I wanted to do more than anything was stop. Just hug my parents and cry, tell them I was scared out of my body. I turned to hug them but they weren’t there. I was so busy trying to pull my leg free and running, I didn’t realize I was running away from them.
