It all started when many countries in Europe started to claim land in the Americas. These countries included Spain, Portugal, England, France, and the Netherlands. These countries started making colonies, growing and expanding, trying to explore the goods and take control of this new land.
Do you know what the word colony means?
A colony is a place controlled by faraway mother countries.
The English King's name was King George The Third. He was the ruler of both England and the 13 English colonies. Many English people believed he was a bad man and this book will teach you all about why the people hated him so much.
King George lll (1760 - 1820)
One of the reasons King George was disliked by some of the English colonists in the Americas was that he did not allow them to cross into lands they won in the French/Indian War. The French/Indian War first started when the British wanted to take over French land. In 1754 the French/Indian War took place and Great Britain Won but King George wouldn't let the English colonists claim the land they won from the French. This was called the Proclamation Line of 1763.
