Tayasim 2023

Throughout the session the Tukim group focused on the meaning of the name Tayasim; learned about animals; learned Israeli songs and dances, and even invented one ourselves and performed it on Shabbat. Using board games and teamwork, we worked on forming connections and bonds between the kids in the group, especially those who don’t go to the same school. We were the first group in the camp to win the spirit stick thanks to the group’s strong morale which we showed off to the entire JCC. We swam together in the JCC pool and played water games on the field. The kids were a curious bunch and made sure to stop at every possible point in the zoo and the California Academy of Sciences. loved being a part of the best group in all of J-Camp and leading the Tukim forward as best they could every day.

As J-Camp's oldest group, the&nbsp;Nesherim were tiny in numbers but mighty in spirit. They had the opportunity to spend quality time with the different age groups at camp, lead activities, play together, create beautiful art (all in Hebrew of course) and share unforgettable moments both big and small.

From the first moment with the group, it was clear that we were talking about a very mature, smart, curious group of kids. It was important to us to create a connected and friendly group; to make an accessible learning environment of Israeli culture and values; and of course, to make camp a safe space the kids could be excited to come to every morning. The kids improved their Hebrew through games, by asking profound questions, and through our Hebrew activities. They learned to connect as a group and discovered empathy for each other, and of course, for people outside of the group. We always kept a positive environment, sang songs and morales, played games on the field, rested in our room with puzzles and card games, applied our knowledge, and enjoyed every moment we had with each other. In our Hebrew activities, we focused on learning about Israeli culture, the different symbols of the country, learned about the meaning of our name, and worked to create a deeper connection with Israel and the Hebrew language. Mia and Hadar enjoyed every moment with the and are very proud of the group and the past 4 weeks. We wish all the campers luck in their future endeavors.

During these past few weeks we’ve done lots of things in the SHAPIRIOT group. We’ve had field trips to many places such as the Oakland Zoo, Aqua Adventure Waterpark and the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco. We incorporated the Hebrew language at every opportunity and celebrated the beauty of the Israeli culture. The group received the camp bracelets at the end of each day and also experienced a variety of content such as Hebrew lessons, games, stories and many art and science creations. We've enjoyed playing together, dancing and listening to music every day and we'll miss our Shapiriot greatly!

Barburim, a group of 17 enthusiastic campers, recently concluded their enriching experience at J-Camp focused on Hebrew language immersion. Throughout their time at camp, these young learners were immersed in a vibrant and supportive environment that fostered their passion for Hebrew language. Led by dedicated counsellors,                                  the Barburim group delved into a variety of engaging activities and interactive lessons, enabling them to strengthen their Hebrew language skills. From dynamic conversations to cultural exploration, the campers embarked on a remarkable journey of language acquisition and cultural understanding. Through the camp's innovative approach, Barburim developed a deep appreciation for Hebrew and Israeli  heritage, fostering lifelong connections and a sense of belonging within the community. As they bid farewell to their time at camp, the Barburim group departs with enhanced Hebrew proficiency and lasting memories, ready to embrace their future endeavors with newfound confidence.

The past four weeks have been amazing. We had a great time bonding and having so much fun! During the first week we had a trip to the Oakland Zoo and had many activities about animals. The kids started making connections and made new friends for the summer. On the second week, we had a pirate-themed week and went to the Aqua Adventure water park. The third week was an "Around the World" week, in which we had many activities about different cultures and countries, and also had a late-over on Friday. On our final week of the session - Lost in Space week, we had a trip to the California Academy of Sciences and activities about planets and space. We wanted to thank you, both the parents and campers, for the amazing experience we've been so lucky to have!

Throughout the summer, the Tzofiot group had a strong connection and became one of Tayasim’s most distinguished group. The kids learned about colors, animals, and Israeli culture. We traveled to the zoo, the water park, Mitchel Park, and California Academy of Sciences. We learned and danced to many Israeli songs that brought an Israeli environment and a crazy energy to our group. The Tzofiot could be heard throughout the entire JCC while they sang our morales—by the end of the session we won the spirit stick which only proves how proud the kids were to be part of the Tzofiot and their love for the group. Noa and Omer were full of pride and loved every moment of the session.

Each morning, our entire camp came together to kickstart the day with an energetic and joyful Chavurah time. The air would be filled with the sounds of laughter, lively songs, exuberant dances and exciting games. These shared moments created a strong sense of togetherness and set the tone for an exhilarating day ahead. The joy and camaraderie shared will undoubtedly be cherished by the campers and staff alike.

Throughout the camp, we eagerly awaited each new week as it brought with it a unique and captivating theme. The anticipation was palpable among both campers and staff, as we knew that a world of engaging activities, thrilling games, and inspiring art awaited us, all centered around the chosen topic. These themed weeks not only provided a platform for fun and excitement but also fostered a love for learning and creativity. By combining educational elements with enjoyable activities, we were able to ignite the campers' curiosity and inspire them to explore new interests and talents.

Every Tuesday, we embarked on thrilling outings, leaving the confines of the JCC behind and venturing out to enriching and enjoyable places. These excursions provided us with the opportunity to learn and have fun. Throughout these outings, we made sure to continue our Hebrew immersion, incorporating the language into our interactions and conversations. This allowed us to strengthen our language skills in a real-world context, bringing an extra layer of enrichment to our experiences.

We've had so much fun this session!

As we conclude the first session of the Hebrew camp - Tayasim, we wanted to reflect on the incredible journey we've had over the past four weeks. We began with a group of kids who were strangers to each other, and now we end the session with new friendships blossoming and even play dates being planned among children who had never met before. Witnessing this transformation is truly exciting. At Tayasim, our primary focus has always been on providing a rich Hebrew learning experience while ensuring the children have fun and enjoy themselves. It has been heartwarming to see how the children have embraced speaking more Hebrew, dancing to the vibrant tunes of Israeli songs, and gaining insights into Israeli culture. The various field trips we embarked on, the memorable sleepover, and the thrilling "color war" on the last day of camp have all added to the joyous atmosphere. Every Friday, we delighted in serving a scrumptious lunch, whether it was a sizzling BBQ, mouthwatering pizza, or delectable sandwiches. It has been a pleasure to witness the growth and development of each child throughout the first session. Thank you for entrusting us with your children's education and experiences. Throughout the session, we went on many adventures together—from Oakland to San Francisco. We learned about different animals; focused on shapes, numbers, colors, and having a great deal of fun!
