How to perform the Lindy Hop; A Savoy Ballroom Special!
Are you looking to impress the ladies or men around you? Are you looking for the best way to let loose on the ballroom floor? The Lindy Hop is just for you! Originating in the Savoy Ballroom, the Lindy Hop is a dance that has become widely popular, and has become a good dance to have under your belt!
To start the basics of the Lindy Hop, get a partner! Anyone will do, and you'll want to take a few steps in the same direction as your partner, like a classic European ballroom dance. Then there's the spinning part of this dance, where one person will spin the other. This can come in any order, but make sure to sprinkle in a bit of turns and twists to your dance to make it unique to you! The last, most important rule though is to let loose!

Now that you know the fundamentals of the Lindy Hop, you can go practice it with that gal or fella you've had your eyes on! Now have fun!
Gladys Bentley; The gender-bending King of Harlem
When you think of bawdy songs and beautiful blue tunes, who do you think of? For us, we think of Gladys Bentley and her stunning voice and spirited exuberance. Her beautiful, bold singing and her lively performances both through voice and piano are much to admire. Not only that, but her choices and lifestyle show us all that labels cannot define our boundaries, and that we can always push past the box that our society places us in. In all, Bentley is a wonderful performer and will forever be memorialized in the Harlem Renaissance!
Though art can be sung and played without reason, and most certainly drawn and painted - Lois Mailou Jones reminds us again that our art can be a medium for our heritage and culture. Her work, which is heavily inspired by the roots of African culture and ancestry, brings a unique perspective to a world of White, American artists.

The true reach of Lois Mailou Jones' work is something that stands out above the rest, as it had given hope to many African American artists to chase their goals - which cements her place as an important person during the Harlem Renaissance.
