Hmm....do you mean that a solid can change into a liquid or a gas?
Yes, heat melts solid ice and causes it to change to water. Heat also causes water to evaporate and become a gas.

Its' time for science!
Betty
We are studying how matter can change states!
Tilly
Max
It's reversible too!
If you freeze cream, it changes to ice-cream. And ice-cream melts back to cream
on a hot day!

You are both correct! Heat can cause
both reversible and irreversible chemical reactions.
both reversible and irreversible chemical reactions.
Ice-cream?
But.. if I accidentally burn my toast in the toaster, I cannot reverse it.

Chemicals can also cause a change in the state of matter – for example,
acetic acid found in vinegar.
acetic acid found in vinegar.
Lemon juice is an acid too. I remember testing it with pH paper in 4th grade!
experiment!
Can we do an experiment to learn more about chemical reactions?
Yes!

1. Make sure a parent is available to help.
1. Make sure a parent is available to help.
2. You will need a raw egg, vinegar, plastic wrap, and a glass.
3. Gently place the egg into the glass.
4. Pour vinegar into the glass until it covers the egg.
5. Cover the glass with plastic wrap. Let it sit for 24 hours.
6. After 24 hours, pour out the vinegar, replace it with fresh vinegar, and wait another 24 hours.
results!
