#43JW-DOS5 Daily Report: 8/27/223
Daily Summary:
Assigned to a new child today. 7-year old Secorah Xander was brought in following the death of Capt. Elwyn Xander on 8/25/223.
Subject was delivered to the care quarters at 08:00 hours. She was visibly distressed, showed signs of trauma. She had not eaten in over twelve hours, and was given a nutritional snack upon arrival. She fell asleep and stayed asleep with little interruption until 11:00 hours. Woke up well-rested and in a content mood. She watched two episodes of the VR Program “History Rangers: Mars Home”. She then inquired about her parents. Recording of interaction is attached.

Interaction A

Subject then refused to speak for the remainder of the day. Maintained by Protocol 63-F, and did not address the silence, instead speaking to her as if there was nothing wrong. Subject ate lunch at 13:00 hours and dinner at 18:00 hours. Subject was then put to bed at 21:00 hours. Immediately after being put to bed, Subject initiated a conversation.

Interaction B

I played her “Frere Jaques” or “Brother John”, an old Terran lullaby. She was asleep by 22:00 hours.
Conclusions are that the subject is most likely traumatized and confused, but is coping well in the way that humans usually are capable of, especially at that age. She mainly complains of missing her mother, who will be visiting her tomorrow, 8/28. That is predicted to have beneficial effects on her.

A briefing sent to the crew of the Regnolium, breaking the news about Astra Xander’s suicide, and assuring the populous that Luna Kaiser would not be taking over the Captain’s Duties.

ASAP: Alert Briefing:
To All Personnel
From: Gen. L. Kaiser, Acting Captain
Date: 8/28/223 at 1200 hours.

Friends,
As we are all aware, our brave and wonderful Captain Elwyn Xander passed on the 25th, after a long battle with Venusian Phleghmrot. In the midst of this craft-wide mourning and grief, I am devastated to share with you all that his wife, Dr. Astra Xander, tragically passed in the early hours of the morning.
We as a craft and a community mourn the loss of this kind and generous woman, who leaves behind her young daughter Secorah and a legacy of benevolent rule aboard the Regnolium.
Born in 2190 in the Deltora Quadrant of Jupiter IV, she led a rich life both as a leading Gravitational Anomaly Researcher and Pro-Earthian activism. She will be missed.
We are in the process of finding a permanent captain, as I am determined to steer the Regnolium in the right direction, if you will. I assure you that we will find the right person as soon as we possibly can.

Ut in ore universum,
General Luna Kaiser, Acting Captain of the Regnolium

GN. KAISER: Kiska, report?

DR. KISKA: Reporting, Cap. What’s going on? I heard you on the
comms a few minutes back. There was an airlock breach?

GN. KAISER: What’s the status of Secorah?

DR. KISKA: We’ve had her in our care since yesterday. She’s
safe. Cap, was there an airlock breach?

GN. KAISER: Astra Xander died, Nol. She spaced herself.
DR. KISKA: What? Luna, are you serious? Why would she...

GN. KAISER: We don’t know. But word’s already gotten out.
There’s the beginnings of riots down by Sector 8-B..

DR. KISKA: What the hell happens now?

GN. KAISER: Astra was our only shot at a Captain who knew what
they were doing. Mutiny, I’ll bet. And I can’t be the one
who this falls on. There’ll be someone from the Commander’s
Office coming down to get the girl at 1600 hours.

DR. KISKA: Luna, come again. You can’t be serious. She’s seven.

GN. KAISER: Nol, it’s not about her age. She’s got the name.
She’s got the legacy. With enough coaching, she’s got the
words to calm the people down.

DR. KISKA: You’ve lost your mind.

GN. KAISER: This isn’t a debate, Kiska. It’s been decided. Over.
