I love the way this teacher teaches the students how to draw a self portrait. She keeps it simple and shows students how to create different facial features with the use of various lines. She also shows different ways to draw the features! This would be a great video to play along side a demonstration done by myself for the class and I could pause the video along the way to move at a pace that is right for my students!

This quote resonates with me because I believe that art should be something that is relaxing and allows students to express themselves in a different way other than speaking or writing. I believe that anyone can be an artist if they put their mind to it and believe that they can! Art is about thinking outside the box and creating things that make you happy and this doesn't always have to happen in art class! This is what I found to be most useful, learning that art can be applied to all areas of the curriculum. Its adds an interesting twist that is engaging and allows for students creativity to shine. The most important aspect to remember while teaching art is to make sure that everyone feels included and validated. This was the main takeaway for me from this semester! Art isn't always easy, especially for students who are exceptional, and so it is my responsibility as there teacher to meet their needs in my art class! And so on that note... Primary Colour Mixing Activity! Mixing with ice cubes! Children are able to put the coloured ice cubes into glasses of water and see what two primary colours can create!

Junior Colour Mixing Activity! Junior students are able to draw their own black line master of whatever they want and as they fill them in, the two primary colours go on either end and in the middle is what the two colours create! This gives them more creativity and freedom!

The element I chose was colour. Here is the element of colour and its expectations for grade three. -Colour: colour for expression, colour to indicate emotion mixing of colours with white to make a range of warm and cool tints. Curriculum: -D1.1 The students are creating a monster and have the freedom to express any type of emotion or feelings that they want. -D1.3 The students are using the element of colour to express emotions. -D1.4 The students must create an artwork using Tempera paints. They must mix the colours they wish to use to represent the emotion they want to convey. -D2.1 This is done prior to the activity, after reading the book. I will ask my students to share some experiences they have had in relation to colour and emotion. -D2.2 This is done as part of the consolidation activity. The students must explain why they used the colours they did and what emotion they created and why.

This project would fit with the grade three language curriculum. Since we are basing our artwork off a story students must demonstrate their understanding of what was read to them (Oral Communication: Demonstrating Understanding 1.4). The consolidation portion has a writing component so all of the Writing section of the curriculum would be incorporated as well.

You will need: -Primary colours (red, blue, yellow), white, and black in Tempera Paint -Paint Brushes -Paint Pallet -Water Cup -Newspaper (to protect surfaces) -Black Line Masters of Jars and Monsters -"The Color Monster" Book For Consolidation Activity: -Paper -Pencil -Teacher will write on the white board the questions to answer: What mood is your monster conveying? How do the colours help to represent the mood? Why is your monster feeling this way?

Primary Tints and Shades Activity: This is a great activity for younger children to introduce the idea that colours can be lightened or darkened when we add more water or black food colouring. This can be done like a demonstration from the teacher and the children can observe and ask questions.

I have decided to chose a colour activity and the target audience would be grade three students! We would first start by reading the book "The Color Monster" by Anna Llenas and talk about some of our own experiences with emotions and what had happened that made them feel that way. We would also talk about how certain colours can influence how we feel and some of their own experiences with colour! We would then complete the jar activity which would involve the students mixing colours that match the emotion given under the jar. Next, I would allow them to pick one of the three blackline masters of the monsters. They would then have to paint the monster using a variety of colours to convey a certain mood/emotion. Finally, they would consolidate with an activity where they would write about the mood they are conveying, how the colours help to represent the mood, and about why the monster was feeling this way.

This would be the final product. The students would first practice their colour mixing, tints, and shades on the jar blackline master. Next, the students would pick a monster and create their own mood. They must ensure to use at least two different colours and at least one tint of a colour and one shade. I used four different colours in my exemplar. I used a tinted colour of yellow and green. I used a shade colour of green, purple, and yellow. I would explain that the majority of my monster is happy (yellow) but when I am happy I also feel calm (green). The orange in my opinion represents excitement and the purple represents comfort and relaxation. I would encourage my students to interpret the colours as they see fit.

Primary Tertiary Colour Activity: I think this would be a cute activity for younger kids. Have them start by mixing colours and just exploring what colours they create. Have them plop some colour on the page and make the dot of paint into something fun! This example shows birds but the possibilities are endless!

Junior Tertiary Colour Activity: The students will have to create the tertiary colours as they go around the buildings. This can also tie in perspective and emphasis as well as other principles of design. This is why it would be more suited to older grades.
