Once you have planted your delicious vegetables, wait for them to grow and eventually, enjoy your tasty vegetables!

The goal of our project is to inform people on how to grow vegetables. We chose this how-to-guide to growing vegetables so people can know an easier and more accessible way to getting nutritious foods if they cannot go to a local supermarket to get these foods. We are hoping for our project to accomplish the problems and worries that people go through when trying to access the nutritious foods they need for their daily lives.

The challenges we faced during this project was finding the correct pictures because we had to visit multiple locations around our campus and visit our school garden and record the footage. One of our biggest problems was finding what digital tool we needed to use. Our final decision resulted in us using book create to create this project.

We had many successful and non-successful times with our project. One thing we should've done better was manage our time. We should've split up the work and set up the project differently so each of our group members can experiment with the work evenly. What we enjoyed about this project was going around and not only allowed to be taking the pictures but also being allowed to observe all the plants and at the same time, learn more ways to grow different vegetables. We learned many things including how to grow vegetables, different ways to grow vegetables, and the details on growing vegetables like planting dates, types soil, and sun exposure.

You want to make sure your plants get the proper fertilizer they need to grow properly. The fertilizer should include nitrogen and potassium. This is because without these, the plants either would not grow, or the plant(s) will die.

Growing vegetables is an important aspect to the environment and people's lives. The goal of growing vegetables is making people take growing vegetables into consideration and if these people do not have access to vegetables or nutritious foods in local supermarkets, then they can take easy action and plant their own vegetables right in their backyard! We hope this project will benefit people's ability to access these vegetables and foods in order to make it simple for different people to get the nutritious foods they need. The change that we would like to happen in society is that people would not have to worry about not being able to get the foods they need and how people are not getting to supermarkets to get these things. This is why growing vegetables is an easy and accessible way to grow healthy and nutritious foods. 

Being precise with picking out veggies is key. You want to pick out the right vegetables for the time you are planning to plant them. For instance, if the climate is cold then it would not be good to grow broccoli, carrots, tomatoes, radishes etc. If there is a warm or hot climate, then that would be the perfect time to grow these types of vegetables. 

8. Give your plants room to grow

You need to have a good amount of space in order for your plants to grow plus last. If your plants have no room to grow, they have a possibility of not growing properly or not even growing at all. Spreading out your plants gives them a good chance in order for them to grow right and healthy.

1. Choose the right location

Choosing a location in order to grow vegetables is very important. Sun exposure is a number one need for the vegetables. In order for these vegetables to grow, they need at least 6 hours of sunlight daily. Some vegetables can grow directly in a garden and some do not. This is because of the seeds each vegetable has and how extinct they are from one another. Some vegetables have sensitive root-systems which are sometimes messed up in the process of transplanting. Some examples of vegetables that grow directly in a garden are carrots, peas, green beans, etc. Some examples of vegetables that do not grow directly in a garden are onions, cucumbers, pumpkins, etc.

Once the seeds begin to grow, you must take a look at how much of the weeds are left out. Make sure there are about 2-4 inches of the weeds sticking out. You need to do this to make sure the vegetables are grown thoroughly and properly. 

How To Guide Growing Vegetables

When you begin to prepare your soil, you must dig deep and take a look at the types of soil that you use to plant your vegetables as well as the minerals for the soil. The best soil suitable for vegetables includes&nbsp;lots of compost and organic matter such as composted leaves and ground or shredded aged bark. You have to make sure the types of soil are just right for you veggies. If the soil is sticky and gritty then the soil is just perfect. The best minerals for the perfect soil are granite dust, greensand, and sulfur. This causes the vegetables to be healthy and last long when they eventually grow.

Growing climate and mature cycles are dissimilar counting on the plant and the climate, so you shouldn't spread all the seeds at the same time. Planting days can be found on seed packets.&nbsp;

Why this Project?

We surveyed our school body here at STMS. Our results convey in a reasonable 40% have seen our global scholars video on the morning news. More than half are worried about food waste. More than half are considering to change their actions and see why it is affecting the climate. Lastly, more than half are going to do something about this problem and find a solution.

When planting the seeds you need to make sure the seeds are correctly placed in the soil. To start off, you take your hands and dig a hole in the soil that is at least 3 inches deep. Once that is completed, you take your seeds and carefully place them in the hole. Then you must take the soil and dirt then group it all together making sure it is fully covering the seeds. Lastly, you must water the seeds, but make sure to not over do it or else the seeds will not grow.

My hopes for the impact of this project is for people to have easier access to nutritious food. This is because if people don't have local supermarkets in their area it may be easier to grow your very own vegetable garden. We hope at least 70% of people benefit from our How-to. According to our survey, 45% of people chose that access to nutritious food is the most important food security issue. The How-to guide is our solution to this major problem by informing people on how to grow a vegetable garden.
