A new development is at Golden High School, and not many people know what it is or where it's located. A brand new $175,000 baseball hitting facility has come to Golden. While it may be nondescript from the outside, but a great amount of work was put into assembling the new batting cages at Golden High School.
That’s right - the big, boring, light-brown building outside the English classrooms on the south side of the school are indoor batting cages; only the second of it's kind in all of Jefferson County.
Promoted specifically by the baseball team, the $175,000 project was funded mainly by the team, with help from the softball team. That price tag does not include the turf, nets, lights, heating, two high-performance pitching machines, as well as two squat racks.
According to Jackie McBroom, the Varsity Coach at Golden High School, the approximate total cost for everything included is $190,000 to $200,000. The ambitious project has been planned for two years, and was officially opened last week. Two cages are inside the building, one regulation size, one half size used only for drills.

This building at GHS will certainly help teams excel. Indoor baseball facilities provide safer, more comfortable environments for athletes and spectators. This gives the baseball and softball players chances to improve at high performance all year long. Playing baseball in Colorado is a disadvantage, considering players are competing against teams from warmer climates such as California, Texas, and Arizona. With snow on the ground players can’t practice outside, but this newly built facility allows the players to continue their athletic growth through the year.
Full view of the indoor baseball facility.
