A Montreal teacher is teaching her students about disabilities by helping them to build video game controllers

Students in 9-31 &amp; 9-32 were featured by Makey-Makey, the company responsible for furnishing the circuit boards their controllers were wired to.

Ian Wood (reporter with CTV News Montreal) visited Beurling Academy to talk to students in 9-32 about how Math &amp; Science were used to create gaming controllers for those with physical disabilities in the Ready Player One project.

Ms. Anwar was interviewd by Elias Makos on The Elias Makos Show on CJAD 800. Elias wants to know how the Ready Player One project has helped the participants to learn more about disabilities.

Ms. Anwar &amp; Mr. Swiderski were interviewed by Daniel Sucar of Journal Metro about Ready Player One and the impact it has had on the way the students approach Project-Based learning.

Over the course of four weeks, students performed research, designed their controller, planned out the fabrication process and then executed it.

How can we improve student organization? Covid restrictions made student organization particularly difficult this year. Grade 8 students got creative in the 3D Lab using Tinkercad and Makerbot to find solutions.

While answering the question "Why should we eat a healthy diet?", grade 9 students used their gained knowledge about nutrition to modify recipes to create healthier alternatives to some of their favourite foods. While working in teams of three (3), students will (with the help of Makey-Makey STEM sets) create a working adaptive controller that addresses one of three possible physical impairments (visual, auditory, gross motor).
