Here at Gardens School of Technology Arts our students are surrounded with a kind community and amazing role models. All our staff members try their absolute best to let them have the funnest learning experiences. We have many different electives to help the students here join in on more things and expand their knowledge in that elective.

For the magazine Colin Murphy chose to interview Mr. Joseph's Media class for the cover of the GSOTA Magazine. The topic was teaching and fun.

Q: Mr. Joseph why did you choose to work at Gardens School Of Technology Arts?
A: Because it was a wonderful place, a perfect location and seems great.

Q:Did you work at a school before GSOTA?
A:Yes I have been a teacher for 20 years and worked at 4 colleges, and art programs in the past.

Q:What was your first ever job?
A: My first job was being a paperboy.

Q: What is your favorite grade to teach in GSOTA?
A: 8th grade and possibly 7th grade.

Q:What's your favorite animal?
A: A cat.

Member of the month

We interviewed Coach Milsaint here at GSOTA as a member of the month. First question I asked was, "What made you want to work here"? His response was "The reason why I wanted to work here was because of the school environment, staff members and how we work as a team and the professionalism shown here at the school." The second question was, "Do you like to help kids in your class?"and his response was "Absolutely." The last question was, "What do you like to do in your free time?" His last response was, "Playing soccer and going to the gym"

Mcdonalds, this meal already comes up to 780 calories by itself, but throw in a large Coke (290 calories) and large order of fries (510) and you’re looking at a meal that will set you back almost 1,600 calories. Can you guess what it is? It's the infamous Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese!

HIGHEST CALORIE ITEMS IN FAST FOODS

Burger King has its share of big, high-calorie sandwich, but this one is far and way the highest calorie item. It features three quarter-pound beef patties, bacon, cheese, special sauce on a sesame seed bun. The Triple Stacker King comes up to a whopping 1,370 calories.

Five Guys: Large Fries, there's no denying that Five Guys has delicious French fries. It's impossible not to order a side of them with a burger or a hot dog. But if you're going to, just know that the large fry option has 1,314 calories, which is a lot, to say the least. If you add that to a burger with a bun (no other toppings) for 460 calories, you've got a meal that is nearly 2,000 calories in just one sitting.

One might assume that one of Dairy Queen's ice cream sundaes would be at the top of the list, but nope: it's the chicken. A six-piece basket of Honey Hot Glazed Chicken Strips comes in at 1,600 calories, one of the highest on this entire list. That doesn't even include fries.

Travel bloggers travel to different places, write about their experiences, and publish them onto an online blog. This industry is in-demand where the blogging industry is set to grow by $417.85 billion between 2021-2025, as cited by DemandSage.

Geologists study the materials, processes, and history of the Earth. They travel for on-site work, develop research proposals, visit locations to collect samples, and conduct surveys. This job outlook has a 5% growth rate from 2021-2031, as stated by BLS.

Requirements: knowledge and real interest in creating travel blogs, willingness to research the travel blog's market, interacting with the blog's audience, and great investment of time and money in the travel blogs

Requirements: a bachelor's degree in geosciences (a master or doctorate degree may be needed for research roles), along with having skills involving communication, problem-solving, and technology (data analysing)

Sherlock Holmes

Arthur Conan Doyle (The creator)

In 1877, a young medical student by the name of Arthur Conan Doyle became Dr Bell's clerk and the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, and was inspired, by what he saw of the good doctor's methods and powers of deduction and observation, to create the character of Sherlock Holmes. Joseph Bell used methods of observation and deduction on his patients and Conan Doyle was very impressed by his teacher's methods. This was an inspiration for the creation of Sherlock Holmes. That's why Joseph Bell was often named as "The Original of Sherlock Holmes"

Who inspired Sherlock Holmes?

On October 14, 1892, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, by Arthur Conan Doyle, is published. The book was the first collection of Holmes stories, which Conan Doyle had been publishing in magazines since 1887. Conan Doyle was born in Scotland and studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh, where he met Dr. Joseph Bell, a teacher with extraordinary deductive power. Bell partly inspired Doyle’s character Sherlock Holmes years later.

What makes Sherlock Holmes special?

Sherlock Holmes's success as a “consulting detective” comes from his uncanny ability to gather evidence based upon his honed skills of observation and deductive reasoning. minute observations and is thus able to solve the most difficult cases, which baffle others. He is quite well informed, but only in a limited number of subjects. I personally think what makes him interesting is that he solves mystery and helps people in a unique way and that he has a shady, mysterious aura to him. He is a very skilled and intelligent detective and you many find reading some books or watching some movie about his detective cases interesting and you may even like him as much as I do.

The Mona Lisa is one of the most famous paintings in the world made by the famous painter, engineer, Leonardo Da vinci. It's suppose to give you the sense of overall harmony that was achieved in the painting.

The Starry Night is also one the most famous painting yet it is not known well like The Mona Lisa. The painting represents the Artist's (Vincent Van Gogh) Point of View of how he sees the countryside through the sight of his window.

3. American Gothic

3. 'IN MY DREAMS'

American Gothic, a 1930 painting made by George Seurat is a famous masterpiece but is barely known for its existence. This painting is sometimes featured in cartoons but only for a couple seconds or a minute. It's suppose to represent the traditional american value of what a farmer looks like in this time period.

What is St. Patricks Day?

St. Patrick's Day is a holiday that people celebrate all around the world. St. Patrick's Day celebrates a man named Saint Patrick, and it also celebrates the arrival of Christianity in Ireland.

Who is Saint Patrick?

Saint Patrick started being called a saint after becoming a priest in Ireland and helping the spread of Christianity in Ireland. For all of his help in culture they made a holiday on his death date and named it after him.

Where was St. Patrick's Day First celebrated?

St. Patrick's day was first celebrated around 1631 in ireland and was brought to America by British soldiers at aroulf 1762 when the first St.Patrick's day parade was held in New York. The first St. Patrick's day parade was in what is now St.Augustine, Florida. The Parade was held on March 12, 1601 in a Spanish Colony.

History

Gothenburg, Sweden is where floorball originated from it was technically made in 1958 but in that time they only played different versions of it, they started playing the current version in 1968. Canada, Sweden, and USA have claimed to be the original creator of floorball.

The required items are a hockey stick but made out of plastic and a plastic ball with holes. There must be two groups with five people, with a goalie which is not included in the five so more so 6 players. They have to wear protective gear and the objective of the game is to get a goal but having defenders and a goalie and players who steal the ball from the other group.

History

Joggling sounds like the same sport it is jogging/running and juggling at the same time, the inventor is Bill Giduz when he was caught juggling and running at the same time in N.C. state university.

All you have to do is run/jog and juggle at the same time while going against other people so basically like a normal race but if a participant drops there object they have to go back to the spot it was dropped and then continue going. A simple sport that can be kinda hard if your bad at multitasking you probably would lose.

Fun fact: Guinness World Record-holder is Owen Morse joggling since 1988.

History

Bangladesh is the inventor of kabaddi, but India was credited because they helped populate kabaddi. Kabaddi was introduced to the Olympic games in 1936. Kabaddi is also one of the oldest sports, aka 4,000+ years old. It's still one of the most watched sports in cricket-crazy India. Kabaddi is a sport where there's two different roles, raiders and defense.

In a game there is one raider who has to tag a defense player to get them in what they call a "struggle" then they have to make it back to their side crossing the line but while they are tagging they have to say kabaddi until they have to take a breather and if the chant stops before reaching the goal they lose if the defense gets into a "struggle" they can grab the raider before they get to the line to hold them until they stop chanting and then they will receive a point.

History

Based on the name this might be the weirdest sport you've heard of. Cheese rolling was founded/invented by Phoenicians. It was actually an old regular tradition around 1826.

Basically they make this really big piece of round cheese down a slippery hill and then a big group of people roll, trip down the hill it is a very dangerous game it is a risk to participate in the game. There have been several injuries from cheese rolling. The price is you get keep the big block of cheese, yes very silly.

Fun Fact: The cheese they roll down the hill is 9 whole pounds!

Polo

History

Polo was invented by India, but then British officers saw it and it started to spread around the world. This is another really old sport that has been made. "Pholo" which is basically Polo means ballgame or ball. Polo was introduced to the Olympic games in 1900.

Polo is typically soccer on horses but with sticks. There are 2 teams, and everyone is on their assigned horse, and they have their sticks. They have to guide their horse to the ball so they can hit it with their sticks and get the ball into the opponent's goal. The stick they use can easily hurt someone badly especially when trying to defend their goal or hit the ball while there the other team in front of you.

Candy has an Ancient Origins it goes back to 1500 BC.Acording to Sweet Service,"Egyptians created candy from any sweet, local ingredient they could find. They would often combine honey, nuts, and fruits to make a delicious treat that they could share with their community."

The most popular candies at GSOTA.The most popular candies in the USA according to USA today,"M&M's,Starburst,Hot Tamales,Sour Patch Kids,and Hershey Kisses."Compared to a GSOTA staff member (Jeanne Benz) she said her favorite candy is gummy bears and sour candy because she likes chewy candy and she doesn't really like hard candy because it takes to much work.People like candy because sugar releases dopamine in the nucleus accumbens, the part of your brain linked to reward, novelty and motivation.
