Words by Shania Mendez

Sarcosuchus was a true monster, with estimates of its length varying from 9.5 to 12 metres. Sarcosuchus imperator lived around 113 million years ago, in the early Cretaceous period.

it appears they have been seen going after pretty much anything they could. By the time they reached their maximum body size, they probably would've been a predator of anything.

Titanoboa, the ever known largest species from the member of the suborder Serpentes. Went extinct over 58-60 million years ago. It's considered the largest since it was about 42.7 feet (13 meters).

Titanoboa mostly ate fish, although it would also have eaten other reptiles and amphibians, including large crocodiles and giant turtles.

Titanoboa lived in the Cerrejon Formation of Columbia in South America. After eating crocodiles, the Titanoboa would not eat for the rest of the year!
Fun fun facts about each of these animals

Lived 61.7 million years ago and was about 17 metres (about 56 feet) in length. Paleontologists have discovered remains of the mosasaur stomachs which contained food like fish, sharks, cephalopods, birds, and even other mosasaurs. Similar to snakes, Mosasaurs had jaws could expand to help swallow large whole prey. The teeth would help hold on to struggling prey as the animal swallowed it whole.

Mosasaurs are not dinosaurs. They're reptiles and are closely related to snakes and monitor lizards.

The Sarcosuchus- Sarcosuchus had a long snout that comprised up to 75% of the length of its skull. It seems that its eyes didn’t move left and right but instead moved up and down.

The Titanoboa- This carnivorous constrictor would also eat other snakes like boa constrictors, cobras, pythons and others! The Titanoboa might be a mythological beast because the remains could have been confused for another prehistoric mammal.

The Mosasaurus- Mosasaurus was discovered at a time before anyone had even discovered evolution or even, dinosaurs. One of the most interesting facts about Mosasaurus is that it had a streamlined body and flippers. That enabled it to sail effortlessly through the water at what must have been pretty high speeds.

The Art of Poetry
By Aniyah Dunbar
The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes (1906)

The moon was a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas,
The road was a ribbon of moonlight over the purple moor,
And the highwayman came riding—
Riding—riding—
The highwayman came riding
Up to the old inn-door.
He’d a French cocked-hat on his forehead, a bunch of lace at his chin,
A coat of the claret velvet, and breeches of brown doe-skin,
They fit him with never a wrinkle. His boots were up to the thigh;
And he rode with a jewelled twinkle,
His pistol butts a-twinkle,
His rapier hilt a-twinkle,
Under the jewelled sky.
Over the cobbles he clattered and clashed into the dark inn-yard,
And he tapped with his whip on the shutters, but all was locked and barred,
He whistled a tune to the window, and who should be waiting there
But the landlord’s black-eyed daughter,
Bess, the landlord’s daughter,
Plaiting a dark red love-knot
Into her long black hair.
Fun Facts about the Poet

Operation Origami

Operation Origami: How to Make an Origami Paper Fox
Step 1: Gather Materials
-1 sheet of orange construction paper (15 x 15 cm)
-black marker/pen (for drawing the fox's face)

Step 2: Creating the Folds
Fold the bottom corner up to the top corner diagonally of the paper. Make this as neat as possible.

Now, fold the bottom right corner up to the top point/corner. Then fold the bottom left corner up to the top point/corner.

Next, flip the paper over from right to left. Then fold the right point over to the left point. Rotate the paper a little counter-clockwise. The open corner/point should be at the top.

Fold the left edge - all layers - on a slight diagonal to the right. Let the flaps open back to the left. You can now see the shape of the fox. Fold the fox's face down.

Step 3: Great work! You can pick up the model and play around with the front legs until the fox can stand on his own. Finally you can draw a face if you like!
Above is the photo of 7th Grader Cliff's origami creation of the paper fox using the origami paper fox procedure. In the upcoming weeks, there will be more origami creations and procedures in order to use origami everyday.
