Poet of the Week
What does it mean?
Today
by Billy Collins
by Billy Collins
If ever there were a spring day so perfect,
so uplifted by a warm intermittent breeze
that it made you want to throw
open all the windows in the house
and unlatch the door to the canary's cage,
indeed, rip the little door from its jamb,
a day when the cool brick paths
and the garden bursting with peonies
seemed so etched in sunlight
that you felt like taking
a hammer to the glass paperweight
on the living room end table,
releasing the inhabitants
from their snow-covered cottage
so they could walk out,
holding hands and squinting
into this larger dome of blue and white,
well, today is just that kind of day.
so uplifted by a warm intermittent breeze
that it made you want to throw
open all the windows in the house
and unlatch the door to the canary's cage,
indeed, rip the little door from its jamb,
a day when the cool brick paths

seemed so etched in sunlight
that you felt like taking

The poem describes a single day in the middle of spring. It tells you how the seasons change from winter to spring and how it feels in its transition.

Budgerigar Birds
Two budgerigar's puffed out beside one another
Budgerigar is a small, long-tailed, seed-eating parrot. Their lifespan is 5-8 years. A budgie can have up to 3,000 feathers in total covering their whole body. Their feathers shed very often. A budgie's gender can be determined by the color of their beak. If her beak is purple, she is a girl, if his beak is blue, he is a boy. Budgie's squawk, a lot and they also sing. They are capable of speaking even though they do not know the meaning of the words they say. Overall, they are loving, cute, and friendly birds and an amazing pet to have in the house hold.

Cockatiel Birds

The Cockatiel, also called weiro, or quarrion, is a medium-sized parrot who is a member of the Cockatoo family that comes from Australia. They have a lifespan of 10-15 years. Just like Budgerigar's, Cockatiels can squawk, sing, and mimic human words. Just like most birds similar to it, Cockatiel enjoys music! They express their enjoyment by dancing or bobbing their heads. They might even attempt to mimic the sound of the song. They have 1,500-25,000 feathers all over their bodies. The birds molt once or twice a month. Overall, Cockatiels are silly birds that make great pets and are a big responsibility.
