It’s a little old village on the hills with steep narrow streets in the east of Umbria, Italy’s green heart.

ASSISI
The countryside around Assisi is known for its cultivations of olives, vineyards and cereals.
In Assisi there is Subasio mountain, a protected area, so it’s a place where you can find a lot of animals and plants, live peacefully and not disturbed by human pollution; also you can have long walks with clean air.

SAN FRANCIS' WOOD
TOP PLACE
An important landmark of Assisi is San Francis’ wood.
Here you can really be in contact with nature because there are many types of plants and some animals; there is also a stunning waterfall.
Everyone can do this trail, it is just 2,5 kilometers.

In this wood there are also some finds from the Middle Ages, like an abandoned monastery, a romanic church and a medieval tower.
This wood is really clean and peaceful.
At the end of the trail you can see the “third paradise”, a work by Michelangelo Pistoletti, composed of 121 olive trees that form a sort of 8, symbol of infinity and peace.
It’s an example of land art.
