Step 1 (Term 4 2019):
I wanted to do some art with my Year 7/8 Art class based on the Maori Creation Myth.

I'd seen some painted fence posts at another school and thought painted posts might be an idea to explore.

I bought a resource from 'Teachers Pay Teachers' called 'Maori Atua Mini Posters' made by seller 'Green Grubs'. I thought the pictures looked good for teaching painting techniques from.

Step 2:
I asked the local rep from Goldpine, Richmond if he had any posts he could give me.

He gave thirteen poles of varying lengths for $10 each as they were seconds or damaged.

The class worked in pairs to transfer the pictures onto the undercoated poles ready for painting.

Step 3:
Painting...
...painting...
.......and more painting.....and varnishing...
Lots of learning about painting techniques and colour theory.
Step 4 (2020):
The class now learns about the Creation Myth in more depth in their Yr 9 Social Sciences class.

The pairs of students create a script for their pou character, explaining the character's role in Maori Mythology.

The students record their scripts onto a site called 'Vocaroo' and the audio recording is converted and saved as a QR Code.
