REVISITING FAIRY TALES
This year the Foreign language, literature and culture class (1ère LLCE) in Tamatave, Madagascar, worked on the theme of the Imaginary and more particularly on fairy tales …. or rather fairy tales revisited.

Sometimes finding inspiration in Dina Goldstein's photographs or the texts studied in class, sometimes not ... here are their own revisited stories which show that life is not always a fairy tale!

Enjoy!
Oh but, her greatest strength was to have hated herself. You see she hated herself so much, that no one could inflict deeper wounds than the one she had made with the axe of her tears. She became invincible, for not having been it enough.

Belle had been a model since she was 16; it was her way of convincing herself to love her body, to love herself. Ever since she was a child, she had always been disgusted by the image she had of herself. It was a constant battle against her mind, against herself. The young girl made her mind her worst enemy. After she had been raped, her relationship with her body worsened .She hated herself, she brought herself down and tore herself apart as she hated the person she was, and her mind got the best of her, she had been in a awful pain which found its origins by constantly criticizing and comparing herself to those model who have the perfect body, the perfect face, and a life that everyone would kill to have.
Indeed, she had become obsessed with her appearance, obsessed with the calories she ate, until her scales showed only 30 kg, she started starving. She said 'beauty is pain, what's a little bit of hunger, I can go a little while longer" she faded away....

She fell into anorexia moreover her mother decided to send her to a psychiatric hospital to get her out of the shallow life she was living and to improve her mental and physical state.
Little did she know that there she met a person who would bring an important change in her life?

He was named Priam, a boy from the room across the hall. He radiated comfort, and as their relationship grew, Belle learned how to love herself again...
He was convinced that beauty goes deeper than the surface, and was obsessed with the person that Belle was, her inner beauty fascinated him. The boy became a mirror that helped Belle see a little bit clearer, He taught her to love herself again. He begged her to love herself as much as he loved her.
Will Priam succeed in redrawing her self-image ?

Nerdy boy and Belle

Once upon a time, there was a high school student called Alyx. He was considered as the typical nerd: unpleasant, unattractive, eccentric, uninterested, detached, robot-like and so on. But what made him look like a real swot were his square glasses, his long, straight, overly well-combed hair, and his emotionless expression. He had been harassed since he was a child but it never really affected him; until he finally hit puberty. Ever since he had entered high school, he had this inexplicable desire to be treated like a normal boy and, consequently, started losing his self-confidence as he realised, he didn’t fit the “standards of the high school student”.

Belle, on the other hand, was his total opposite: a caring, extroverted, kind hearted and gorgeous sweet girl, admired by all. One day, seeing that Alyx, unlike what people thought, could feel pain, Belle reached out to him and told him she could help him become the person he wanted to be.

However, as soon as she hung out with the nerdy boy, she started receiving hateful comments on social media and even her friends started walking away from her. Nevertheless, she couldn’t care less because her goal was to make him stop feeling insecure. She took such good care of him that she forgot to take care of herself. And she only realised this, when one of her old friends told her that the more she hung around with Alyx, the uglier she got; as if Alyx had absorbed all her beauty.
