The Solution

     Jackie’s first published book, The Solution, has received high praise among her classmates for its amazing dialogue and creativity in the illustrations. Jackie’s favorite character in the story is Millie because she really helps the rest of her friends and is very kind to others. Her favorite page illustration is 14 because it shows her thankfulness to the doctors and nurses right now. Jackie is a lifelong reader whose literary interests include mystery, action, and adventure. Her favorite book is “Wish.” Currently, a student at Patrick Henry Math, Science, Technology Magnet Middle School who is studying to become an Orthodontist and would like to attend college at USC. When not writing, Jackie enjoys reading, playing video games, and learning new things!

     It was just another boring all quarantine day when four best friends Joe, Taylor, Hannah, and Millie decided to try to make a change. Joe and Taylor were part of the school soccer team and Hannah and Millie were cheerleaders at the school. They all went to the same school, most would dream of going to, you guessed it USC! They all got scholarships, were studying to be scientists, but specializing in chemistry. They apparently already had their bachelor's degree and were working on getting their master's degree at the time. Also, at some schools students started to go on campus with masks of course, and they were forced to wear a mask to go on campus. The building they would go to class in the first period was a laboratory and that was where it all started.

They go back to work and on the last day, they get to the laboratory at exactly 4:39 p.m. When they made the vaccine they had to mix ingredients that are proved to be helpful to humans into different solutions. They made a vaccine to try to fix Covid, but now their problem is how to test it and prove it. Their solution included dandelions which can detoxify your blood, red clovers which is a medicinal herb, water, and garlic which can detoxify heavy metals, and more. “Mr. Clark please,” Taylor says. “Ok just because I know you guys worked so hard on this I will allow some doctors to come and test it on a patient they have,” said Mr. Clark. Once the doctors get there they inject the new vaccine and after several hours because the vaccine fully works after approximately 3 hours…….. it finally worked! They could smell, taste, and they checked if the virus was still active in the blood and the people they tested were all negative which is very good! “We did it you guys,” they all said at the same time. &nbsp;We the people and the world saw the brightest day we have seen in 2 years of this pandemic. All these vaccines, masks, job losses, and quarantines were finally over. After they proved it on many people even though they were very tired they had to ship about millions and millions of vaccines. Of course, it was for a good cause though. &nbsp;Finally, after a month or so everyone who needed the vaccine because they were infected got it, and were all healthy enough not to worry and continue life normally. After they finally finished shipping they got an interview from the news from after they finished and before and you could tell in peoples’ faces that they were relieved. Overall, they did it and who knew it was actually going to be the last day the world saw the worldwide pandemic of Coronavirus that started in 2020 and ended in 2022, and after all the world lived in peace!

They did in fact try to see what can stop the pandemic, but no one could do it on their own after several hours. Long after, not being able to do it they give up and get very angry at each other. So they do not talk to each other for a whole week and that is a lot for friends to stop talking to each other over something they can do together with each of their talents and their own knowledge. After a week they finally see their mistake of working by themselves and being selfish. “I am sorry,” they all say at the same time. “Yes, but maybe we should just admit that we can not do this,” said Hannah. “No we do not give up instead we share our ideas and we work together,” said Millie. Then, they start to get all their materials together and start to study the virus and see what it can be solved with. They got their vials and mixed chemicals to see what will work.&nbsp;“What are you doing now?” yelled Mr. Clark. “You told us we could use the laboratory,” said Taylor. “For your homework which seems to me you finished, so tell me now this instant what you are doing?” yelled Mr. Clark. “We are trying to solve Covid, sir,” said Millie shyly. “You really think you could solve this problem?” chuckled Mr. Clark. “Fine, you can use the laboratory for a few days but you guys better have something good to show,” Mr. Clack says while walking out of the room.

“Why would you give us something that is impossible to find? Nobody can know what can stop Covid-19” said Hannah. “That curiosity door never closes and nothing is impossible so that just means you have to try even harder until you succeed. This is now homework since no one has found out the answer and you have the choice to use the school laboratory,” said Mr. Clark.&nbsp; After they went to all their classes they all went back to the laboratory so they could finish up their homework.&nbsp; “I am going to just work by myself you guys do not know anything,” said Hannah. As soon as she said that you could tell on her face that she regretted it right away. In her mind, she was just frustrated like everyone else, but she reacted differently in the situation. “Fine” they all replied and then they all went in separate directions to work far away from each other. It was still very strange though because they had never really worked alone and succeeded, but they knew that so in their minds they were all a bit confused and not knowing what to do. “Okay fine we all work by ourselves, but I guess it's up to me to be the first one to solve it and become famous,” said Taylor smirking. “Our homework is not to figure out what can solve Covid it is to simply know what is in the vaccine,” said Joe. “I know we finished the homework. We are seeing what can stop the pandemic” said Millie.

“Everyone select a piece of paper from the glass jar and the name of the person you get will determine your partner for the rest of the semester,” said Mr. Clark.&nbsp; Hannah squeals with excitement “I got Millie!” “Yay we will be unstoppable,” said Millie, giving Hannah an air high-five. &nbsp;The next person to pick was Joe&nbsp; “Noah” he called out. &nbsp;“It has been brought to my attention that Noah is absent, so pick again quickly please,” said Mr. Clark. Joe did as he was told and picked again “Taylor,” he said.&nbsp; After everyone picked their partners their job was to study a vaccine that is to stop viruses, but not Covid- 19. Once they studied what was in the vaccine they had to see what is in the vaccine. After several hours in the laboratory nothing, not a single one would even make a noise everyone was, so concentrated. These 3 hours of their lives were very suspenseful in a way that nobody knew who was going to be able to do it and who was going to do it first. They were all sitting on a stool, they all were staring at their own papers with facts and information, but still not an answer to be said.

I dedicate this book to everyone during this pandemic to show that we have hope!
