Bangladesh
Even the weather can affect the people of Bangladesh. The Monsoon season is something we cannot change. It brings the best and the worst for the people of Bangladesh
Throughout Asia the monsoon season brings rain. The monsoons happen only in the Tropics - the areas closest to the equator. There is the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. See the area on this map - all countries in that band are hot, some dry and some very wet. Bangladesh is on the edge of the Tropic of Cancer.

The Garment Industry
Do YOU know where your clothes come from?
Sewing clothes in factories makes up 77% of all of the exports Bangladesh. That means that most of the money earned for the country is made that way and the clothes are sent to shops all over the world. Mostly women work in the garment factories. The factories and their owners do not abide by the rules and the women who work there are exploited by poor wages, long hours and very few breaks from the work. Some factory owners add new levels to their buildings with no building code. The factories have collapsed because of the vibrating machinery. No one is held to account for these 'accidents'. Watch these 3 short videos to see what happens in the workplaces of Bangladesh.
