What is a cloudburst ? = A cloudburst is an extreme amount of precipitation in a short period of time,[1] sometimes accompanied by hail and thunder, which is capable of creating flood conditions.

In Jammu and Kashmir the cloud bursts hit Dacchan and Boujwa areas in Kishtwar, the holy cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir Himalayas, Bandipora in north Kashmir. While Kargil in Ladakh and cloud burst caused devastation in Himachal's Lahaul-Spiti and Chamba districts.
A series of cloudbursts that struck different parts of the Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday reportedly killed 17 and 24 others missing, as per reports from news agencies.
How to reduce the impact ?
- The construction should be less at the river banks .
- People should be made aware about climatic conditions regularly through radio , television e.t.c .
- People should be taught first - aid methods and should be made aware about the easy survival techniques .
