Our Champion of Change representative from the Olives.

At Zaytouna the voice and opinions are part of what makes us who we are. The Olives held a democratic vote to decide who their School Councillor and Leader of Learning representatives would be. Our representatives take part in discussions and debates with all representatives throughout Zaytouna. They then feedback to The Olives and complete any class forum activities required, giving all children a voice regardless of age.

Zaytouna Primary School - Whole School Curriculum

In The Olives, we provide learning environment is one that provides a rich, varied and safe space where our children can play, explore and learn.  We provide our children with all aspects of enabling environments in which their experiences respond to their individual need.  

GLD for 2021/22 was 72%. We achieved this through continued data analysis and adaptations to the environment. Our projections for our 2022/23 cohort is 78%. By understanding our children we are able to implement a supportive and challenging curriculum that focuses on the unique child.

Our planning is developed through child focused discussions that are underpinned by the interests of our children.

Planning within EYFS at Zaytouna supports the learning of all children. Our Phonics lessons are delivered through Read Write Inc where our children access speed sounds as part of an ability group. These groups are then assessed on a daily basis and an individualised session is then delivered to smaller groups of children to ensure that their focus needs are met.

Our maths teaching uses a basis of Power Maths which is then supplemented by White Rose to 
enrich the curriculum both inside and out. The structure follows a revisit, teach, practise and 
deepen approach through the use of concrete, pictorial and abstract methods. 


Enterprise learning uses a ‘theme’ to deliver our provision provided to stimulate and promote active 
learning. Children are encouraged to apply learning throughout any aspect of the environment. This 
is key for the development of transferrable learning and skills that our children will require 
throughout their educational career and beyond. 

Our environment actively encourages the children to explore the world around them, supports and extends our children’s development and learning.

Our environment has been thoughtfully designed to provide the best learning opportunities.

Reading areas that are calm quiet spaces for our children to enjoy a favourite story.

We anticipate that our curriculum program of study will ensure that children are equipped with skill sets and prepared for the future. During their time in EYFS they become fantastic role models and the very best of themselves. Their individuality is valued and the unique child has every opportunity to achieve and excel, based upon their own personal strengths, interest and core values whilst learning in EYFS, and in the future. From different starting points, children progressing from their first day to transitioning into Year 1 will make strong progress academically, emotionally, creatively, socially and physically. Knowledge, understanding and skills will be promoted and eventually mastered to ensure children are ready and fully prepared to begin learning the National Curriculum programme of study in Year 1.

Children will;
 
• Be eloquent orators who have strong communication skills.  They will be able to talk fluently as well as listen respectively and with tolerance to the views of others.
• Take pride in all that they do themselves, others and their community.  They will always strive for the very best.
• Demonstrate self-regulation, emotional resilience and the ability to persevere when they encounter challenge whilst managing risks.
• Develop a sense of self-awareness and become confident in their own abilities.
• Be kind, respectful and honest, demonstrating inclusive attitudes and have a sense of their role in wider society.

Our busy boards help to stimulate cognitive growth, fine motor skill, language development  and problem solving skills.

In the Olives we promote experiences without limitations.

Within The Olives we pride ourselves with actively promoting appreciation and respect for all faiths and cultures. We encourage children to share their own experiences and then develop recognition of similarities and differences between themselves and others.

We provide deconstructed areas within our environment that allows our children to explore their imagination, interact with others and share the rich language of play within the learning space.

Delivery of a full curriculum throughout lockdown, offering full class live learning alongside tailored, individual sessions.

The teaching in the Olives provides children with an engaging and stimulated experience that the children are then able to build on through child initiated learning within our environment.

Have they settled well? Yes Haifa is very much settled down now. Are you aware of how to support your child’s learning in EYFS? Yes I think I do. Mainly reading at home and checking out ClassDojo. What could we do to support you further? I think you have done lots of amazing things already for Haifa. Thank you. How do you share your child’s reading experience? I try to read with her almost every weekdays. Does your child enjoy reading at home and school? Yes very much so. How does Zaytouna support you to read at home with your child? By sending her good reading materials for her to read. Does your child enjoy maths? I would like to think so :) She does like watching number jacks programme. Are you aware of what/how your child is learning in maths and how to support them? ClassDojo shared the video she watched at school about frogs jumping off the leaf in the pond. So we did watch with her that YouTube video on counting. How could we support you further? Do share more similar videos like this on ClassDojo please. Thank you.
