Autumn Campaign 2023

For Autumn Campaign we have chosen a birch near our school. We visited our tree every week and watched how the tree is changing during autumn.

Pupils have been monitoring color of leaves and noting all changes of color following Plant Color Guide. They have also been taking pictures with Grow App.

Karlovac is 444 years old and old town has a shape of six-pointed star, a unique town shape in the World.

Karlovac is located about a hundred kilometars from the Adriatic coast and 40 km from Zagreb. It is 112m above sea level. 

In GLOBE group there are 9 pupils from 2nd and 3rd grade. They all participated very actively in this campaign. They were very interested because this was their first campaign.

We are a GLOBE school only for a year. There are more than 300 pupils in our school and around 50 teachers and other staff. The school is 130 years old and it is the oldest school in our town.

The birch next to our school still has got some green leaves and we are still monitoring changes every week. Color was barely changing throughout campaign period and we are sure that extremely high temperature for this time of the year is the main reason. The average daily temperatures were higher than 15 degrees Celsius and that, for sure, is not typical autumn temperature. Only one, out of four leaves, turned yellow. The other three are still green, for now. This was our first Autumn Phenology Campaign and we enjoyed it a lot! This was a great new experience for us.

After choosing the tree, we marked a branch with colorful ribbon. We also numbered leaves that we were going to observe.
