Chapter 1
One day a pirate called Joe went to the supermarket. He wanted to buy some bread for his pirate friends and his pirate wife. Polly the parrot, Joe's very best friend, came with him. Joe got a basket and then he started to walk around the shop. He saw some bread, some mangos, some brown eggs and some yummy apples. Suddenly, Joe spotted an enormous pencil case. It was taller than him! He decided to buy it so he took it to the till and gave the person gold coins. He carried it under his arm and took it back to his pirate ship.
Chapter 2
Joe got to the pirate ship and he lowered the stairs. He dragged the giant pencil case onto the ship. Everyone heard the noise and came to see what Joe was doing. Joe had a big smile on his face and was happy to show everyone the pencil case. But, his wife said " where's the bread"? and suddenly Joe felt scared. He had forgotten the shopping and now they might be cross. Before his wife could grab the pencil case, Polly the parrot jumped onto it and it fell over the edge into the water. The pirates jumped out into the water to try to save Polly and the pencil case, which Polly was using as a boat. A big wave came and pushed them further down the river. Joe and his wife threw a big net to try to catch and save them. They pulled the crew and the pencil case to the shore. When they got on the shore they were mad because they were wet and shocked to find they were right outside the supermarket.
Chapter 3
Joe was being blamed for not having bought the food as he should but as they could not go to the supermarket all wet, they started to dance in the sun, hoping to dry quickly. For four hours they danced and danced and danced... which made them even more exhausted, thirsty and hungry!
Finally they were dry and were on their way to the supermarket when it started to rain so much that they got all wet again! They were furious!
They looked and looked and finally they saw a restaurant nearby so they decided to go to its take-away. They ordered their food and had to wait for a few minutes until it was ready. Once they got their food, they said thank-you and ran back to the shore. The giant pencilcase was waiting for them. Joe's wife noticed two buttons on the pencilcase, which made her wonder what would happen if she pressed them... When she pressed the buttons, the pencilcase inflated and turned into a small boat. They got into the pencilcase boat and went all the way to their pirate ship but when they were getting there, Polly came panicking and told them their ship had been destroyed because of the lightning!
Since their ship had been destroyed, they decided to change their lives and instead of being the baddies, decided to become clowns, to make people laugh and be happy!

Be silly. Be fun. Be different. Be crazy. Be you, because life is too short to be anything but happy.
ABOUT THE AUTHORS
This book was written collaboratively by P1-P3 A classes for Book Week 2022. Each class contributed to the next part of the story. The classes were provided with a setting, a character and an object that needed to be included in the story but all the creativity came from the pupils. Well done St John Ogilvie!
