About the author! Hannah Gorney lives in Oyster bay new York she goes to James H. Vernon school she is 9 years old in her spare time she really likes to play with her dog she really likes to play softball she also plays soccer sometimes she likes singing playing the drums. She chose Mary Jackson because she is very inspirational. That's all about Hannah Gorney!

When Mary Jackson was growing up she had several jobs.She was a teacher. Then an office worker.She was a secretary too!The government hired Mary. This was in 1951.She worked as a "Human computer". She solved difficult problems.She did this by hand.The problems were important.They helped make space travel possible.

Mary was born in 1921. She grew up in Virginia. Mary Was always  smart. She earned good grades in school. she studied math. She studied physical science. Mary finished college in 1942.

The setbacks for Mary Jackson and challenges for her are that she had a darker skin color and people did not like that back then.But Jackson did not give up she worked for NASA even people were treating her different. She would not give up  she would stay do her job do what she had to do.Just because she had a darker skin color she would not let that stop her.She did not let that stop her.
