INTANGIBLE
HERITAGE PROTECTED BY THE WALLS OF THE WH- SITE
Diocletian's Palace and the
Historical Nucleus of Split were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in
1979.
Once an imperial villa and a Roman
camp, today the area within the walls of the Palace contains Romanesque
churches, medieval fortifications, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque palaces.
But, what it makes more interesting
is the
fact that this is probably the only heritage site in the world that is still
inhabited.
Walking along the 1700 years old
streets, watching the past and the present intermingle together, one cannot omit some of the most important features of anyone's culture: the language, the food and the folklore.
•Dialects, food and traditional
singing are inevitable part of our heritage; our history, present and the
future.

Therefore, we are going to explore
in what way these three distinctive features form a marker of identity of the
Palace.

We started our tour from the Peristyle, the heart of the Palace.
