The History of the Paralympics

The first Paralympics was held in Rome, Italy in 1960. 

The games began mainly as a way to help soldiers who had been injured in the Second World War.

The Tokyo Paralympics is being held from 24th August - 5th September 2021.

What are the Paralympics?

The Paralympics are an international sporting competition that takes place every 4 years for athletes, who have physical difficulties and learning difficulties.&nbsp;

Athletes may compete in wheelchairs, be blind or need special equipment to help them run and compete.&nbsp;
