Outdoor Learning

We work together to build and problem solve!

We have fun with our friends building in the sand!

We enjoy playing with musical instruments and performing to our peers!

We use our outdoor space to develop our gross motor skills through cycling, running, throwing and catching and balancing!

We play exciting games, in groups and independntally to help us learn to read sounds we learn in phonics. We blend the sounds together to read simple words!

We love use different props to help us retell our favourite stories!

We enjoy going to our school library to read stories for pleasure. We have also been on a school trip to our local library to learn how to borrow books and look at all the fantastic stories they have!

Reading

In the first term we learn how to listen and differentiate between sounds to help children tune into sounds within words. This helps us to read and write!

We play lots of different, fun games to help us hear initial sounds and sounds within words!

We enjoy sharing and telling our friends stories!

Construction

Building and constructing is something the children love to do it Reception. They are given opportunities to be imaginative and creative and work together to problem solve!

Firstly, the children research designs and discuss which ones they like and why.

Then, the children design their product, thinking about materials they will use to make it.

The children investigate the quality of different joining materials on different textures.

Finally, the children test and evaluate their finished product!

When learning about People Who Help Us, we used our role play area as a doctor's surgery. The children had lots of fun treating each other, applying bandages and pretending to be receptionists. This helped us develop our vocabulary and our understanding of the roles of doctors and nurses!

The children enjoyed using the role play area as a fruit and vegetable shop. It helped them to learn the names of various fruits and vegetables and develop their understanding of money and giving change.

Maths Number

We develop our understanding of number through singing counting rhymes, counting various objects and matching numeral to quantity!

We ordered numbers to 20 then practised writing them!

Fine Motor Skills and Early Mark Making

To help us with our writing, we develop our muscles in our hands and fingers through lots of different activities such as threading, using tweezers and play dough.

We practise using knifes and forks, to chop and spread to help us develop our fine motor skills.

We copy different lines, patterns and shapes on different materials to help us to prepare to write!

Role Play

In the Autumn Term we learnt all about Festivals and Celebrations!

The children learnt about Eid and the special prayers said during this time. They used the prayer mats to say their prayers.

The children had fun dressing the Christmas tree with decorations, wrapping presents and cooking and serving Christmas dinner!

We loved dressing up as Santa's elves in the workshop!

We had fun investigating how quickly our vehicles moved from different heights!

We work together to develop our ideas and designs

We had fun building and constructing with 3D shapes!

We build various objects using different construction materials

We investigated balancing different objects to make our creations various heights.

Writing

We provide numerous inspiring, exciting opportunities for children to practise writing independently in continuous provision and within adult led activities.

We love writing the sounds and words we have learnt in Phonics in continuous provision and outdoors!

We learn to add and take away using resources and objects, then we draw pictures to help us with addition and subtraction. The children learn the different vocabulary and symbols!

Maths Shape Space and Measure

We had fun learning about size and comparing long and short objects!

We learn about money through real life experiences and role playing buying items and giving change!

We enjoyed making patterns with different 2D shapes!

We practically learnt all about positional language.

We made different pictures using 2D shapes.

Understanding the World

We loved learning about pets and how to care for them!

We loved experimenting with objects that sink and float in our water area!

We have fun exploring the world around us!
