Can a student who depends on AT device transition to traditional learning?

Time timer *The device is used for organizational skills. * The student is able to visually see how much time is left for an activity to be completed. *Without the device, students who do not have time concept may not know when to wake up, get to sleep or move to the next activity in the list. Highlighter *The student is able to focus on the content. *Highlighting makes the area stand out. *students with attention deficit may lack concentration and end up mixing assignments/activities.

Portable swing -Mid tech device -Used by autistic students The purpose is to use activities like yoga regulate them to get the better state of learning in their mind Greek mythology medusa,spear -Low tech -Used by student as thematic art tool The purpose is to act as reminder visual aids prompts to access the content.

BENEFITS OF THE AT DEVICES Chrome book *Turns on tool of choice. Chrome browser is used to read and write for google. Google Chrome book do not need extra software, Google tools can understand even when one has speech issues *Google chrome is a free browser. *Speech to text can read out loud, has voice change settings and you can change the reading speed. *Chrome book has word prediction that benefits students with poor reading/typing skills; helps to build confidence when they are able to complete sentences. *Has an available dictionary to help find words and their definitions, ability to create picture dictionary to match the word. *Students can highlight, choose collect light and create new documents of what has been highlighted. *Students can share documents/assignments through email . *It is a great tool for average students who struggle to learn traditionally.

AT DEVICES DEMONSTRATED

What I learned: I learned that most of the tools they use at the school are low-level tech. The timer,self regulation charts and hokki stools are in all grades. Chrome book are the students' AT devices of choice in the school, currently available in third level, however there is an intention to introduce it to other levels. The functional training zone (OT) has fitness tools to build brains for conducive learning to help the brain create new cells through blood flow. The school is Art based and uses art as an alternative way to teach.Students follow regular academics and show what they know through art , computer tech, or thematic arts. There are 137 students, referred from different counties.Transportation logistics are provided by the referring county; the school does accept private paying students. Baltimore city pays for the teachers.

Visit Activities Upon signing in at the front desk,we were welcomed and offered a cup of coffee/water. Mr. Morgal introduced himself as the schools' technology specialist, he has occupational therapist background. He gave us a list of supplementary Aids&amp;services. He helped us in identifying the levels of the AT devices. He took us to a tour to the different class levels(first, middle &amp; third) and showed us the AT available in those areas.
