TedEd is the educational division of <a href="https://www.ted.com/talks">Ted Talks. </a> There are several resources on the <a href="https://ed.ted.com/educator">TedEd website</a>. One of the items on the site enables instructors to create interactive video lessons. This service is 100% free for instructors and students.

Students can access assignments via their school's LMS or through a video link. Students do not have to install Panopto to watch any video.

So how do students access the video lessons?

Students can create their own Panopto videos if the instructor allows it. If students create their own Panopto videos, they have to install Panopto once on their PC or Mac machines. If the students have Chromebooks, they do not need to install anything as Panopto has a recording feature specifically for Chromebooks. It is called Panopto Capture.

When considering a video tool, it is important to understand how the tool fares for accessibility.

Edpuzzle is an online tool that lets you add content to online videos. Similar to PlayPosit, you can add assessment questions to the videos. With Edpuzzle, you can edit videos from Edpuzzle’s collection as well as, Youtube, Khan Academy, National Geographic, TedTalks, Veritasium, Numberphile, and Crash course.&nbsp;You can also upload your own video! When it comes to content, students need to be able&nbsp;to...

...with the content fully to make the information make sense. If they are unable to do so, the content is not&nbsp;digitally accessible.

<a href="https://nearpod.com/">Nearpod</a> is a free response system that allows instructors to gather feedback from students using multimedia presentations and it works on any Internet-enabled device including tablets, laptops, and smartphones. As part of the platform, instructors can include interactive videos.

Since Nearpod is not exclusively a video tool(like the other tools in this book) this comparison will only concentrate on the interactive video feature.

PlayPosit is a web-based video tool. With this tool, instructors can add questions and hotspots to online videos. PlayPosit offers free and<a href="https://go.playposit.com/pricing-overview"> paid plans</a>. The free plan is for individual teachers and is free always( not a trial). Regardless of which plan an individual gets, PlayPosit offers the following for everyone: -Templates for quick content creation. -Access to free premade content library. -Detailed analytics to understand when learners are succeeding or struggling.

Students can access video lessons by either making a free account or by simply clicking on a link and using a nickname.  The instructor decides how students will access the video.

Unlike PlayPosit and EdPuzzle, the video does not stop when a question shows up. The questions can be seen throughout the video. Instructors can create timestamp hints for students if they need to rewind the video to get their answers.

Remember, it isn't the tool that is teaching the students. The tool is just a way to get the content to your audience.

Videos can be trimmed/cropped. Instructors can track student responses and feedback. Students can retake assessments. Students can download videos as podcasts. All videos can have captions enabled and captions can be edited.

Panopto is a video platform that lets instructors record their classes/lectures. With Panopto, instructors can also upload their own video files. Instructors can add questions to every Panopto video. Panopto is a paid service used by many educational and business institutions( always free for students.)

Using Videos With Students

Just watching videos, requires passive involvement from the audience. Interactive videos, however, allow you to take that video content and add questions to each video, which turns a passive experience into an active one.

When you evaluate Web 2.0 tools, <a href="https://youtu.be/zv4nn8JDxmg">remember it is all about content.</a>

When interacting with the tool, can all students: -Perceive -Understand -Navigate and -Interact ...With the information they are being given?

You have to know your audience. If you use a tool that is not fully accessible, you can still use it with your students if all the students are able to get the content fully. However, if any member of your audience cannot fully interact with the tool/content, then you must consider using a different tool.

If the instructor uses a <a href="https://knowledge.playposit.com/article/212-the-student-experience-3-0">Learning Management System(LMS)</a>, students do not need a username or password to access the videos. They just need to click on the link to access the video lesson.
