The Five Different Senses

ISTE-S: 1.3.c Students curate information from digital resources using a variety of tools and methods to create collections of artifacts that demonstrate meaningful connections or conclusions. This standard meets the students that after learning about the different five senses the students could make their own books. They will also have choices in the book to engage. As a college student designing this project met this standard by I took a textbook, by taking the information and breaking it up for the student one step at a time.&nbsp;

ISTE-E: 2.5.a Use technology to create, adapt and personalize learning experiences that foster independent learning and accommodate learner differences and needs.&nbsp; This standard has helped me as a teacher create this book for my future students because not all students learn the same so adapting to the curriculum for students is very important. Students need a variety of information like images, videos, charts, diagrams, guest speakers and more. In this book that I have created, the students can go back to the videos and look at the images as long and frequently as they want to comprehend the information better.

In this chapter you will be learning about the five different senses. The five different senses are sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. You will be learning about what each of these senses do.

Customized Curriculum Book

This chapter includes; common core standards, IDOE standards, ISTE-S, ITES-E standards, bibliography, and student description.

Devon is a six-year-old non-verbal student with a diagnosis of autism. He attends a special day classroom designated for students with autism that utilizes many environmental supports, including a high adult to student ratio. Unfortunately, Devon has difficulty with transitions. He also has a history of elopement, especially at dismissal time when he and his classmates are escorted to the bus. Devon has few friends or social interactions with his peers. He does have the ability to understand beginning letter and number recognition, the spelling of his own name, and he exhibits select social behaviors including sharing toys from time to time and eye contact from time to time. The needs for the customized curriculum is that he needs visuals, lots of videos to watch and interactive websites, and positive reinforcement transitions.

You use your senses of smell through your nose. Your nose is located above your mouth. Some smells can be the rain, roses, fishy, something cooking, bonfire, and many more. When you go to a bakery and smell the fresh baked goods like doughnuts, bread, cookies, and more.

The taste come from your taste buds on your tongue that is in your mouth. Something sweet like ice-cream, chocolate, and many more. Something salty like chips, popcorn, pickles, and many more. Something that is sour like lemons, sour patch kids, limes, and many more. Something that is bitter is like coffee, green tea and many more.

Five Senses Activities

In this chapter you will be learning about the five different senses. We will also be learning about where the five senses are located. Your eyes are made to see. Your eyes are located above your nose on your face. There are many different colored eyes that people have. Sight is that you can see visual images, objects, colors and people up close.

Your ears can pick up sound waves in the air. Sound waves are small movements or vibrations. Your ears are located on the sides on your head. You can hear different sounds like dogs barking, sirens, people talking, listening to music and a lot more things. The sounds travel through your ear.

Common Core: 1.RV.3.1.a.1: With guidance and support, identify words or phrases in stories, poems, or songs that suggest feelings or appeal to the senses (touch, hearing, sight, taste, smell). My iBook meets this standard because it is teaching the students about their 5 senses. It is important to know about the different senses that we have, every one of them is different and unique. Using his ACC device like the Proloquo2Go or LAMP or PECS or a different communication device. The modification will help this student meet this standard by learning the different five senses and recognizing the senses in everyday life.

IDOE Standards: Indiana Academic Standards: 1.RV.3.1: Identify words and phrases in stories, poems, or songs that suggest feelings or appeal to the senses (touch, hearing, sight, taste, smell). I customized this book for this student because this student may have difficulty with reading the passages, picking out the phrases. Maybe he can identify the similar words of the senses in the passage instead of the phrases. He may need words to be highlighted, the text a bigger font, more images then words, and have the student read along with the book.&nbsp;

There are nerves in your skin that sense when there is hot, cold, pain or touch. Touch is something that is soft, hard, cold, hot, bumpy, smooth, rough or many more. Touch is that you can feel with your hands, feet or arms.
