Τα κάλαντα του Λαζάρου

Τα κάλαντα του Λαζάρου είναι διαδεδομένα σ΄ όλα τα κεντρικά και νότια Βαλκάνια. Στον ελληνόφωνο χώρο έχουν έντονα θρησκευτικό χαρακτήρα, ενώ στη Γιουγκοσλαβία*, Βουλγαρία, Ρουμανία και Αλβανία είναι κυρίως μια γιορτή της άνοιξης, η οποία φέρει απλώς το όνομα του Λαζάρου.

The carols of Lazarus

The carols of Lazarus are widespread throughout the central and southern Balkans. In the Greek-speaking world they have a strongly religious character, while in Yugoslavia *, Bulgaria, Romania and Albania it is mainly a spring festival, which simply bears the name of Lazarus.

Στα κεντρικά Βαλκάνια ο Λάζαρος είναι ο ήρωας της βλάστησης, το πνεύμα της χρονιάς που πεθαίνει το χειμώνα και ξαναζωντανεύει την άνοιξη.

In the central Balkans, Lazarus is the hero of vegetation, the spirit of the year that dies in winter and comes back to life in spring.

Το έθιμο "Λαζαρίνες", έχει διπλό χαρακτήρα καθώς ταυτίζεται με τον ερχομό της Άνοιξης, αλλά και με την Ανάσταση του Λαζάρου. Πρόκειται για ένα έθιμο όπου παλαιότερα τα κορίτσια πήγαιναν στα χωράφια και μάζευαν λουλούδια, τα λεγόμενα «λαζαράκια», μικρές κίτρινες μαργαρίτες με τα οποία στόλιζαν μικρά καλαθάκια και γύριζαν από σπίτι σε σπίτι και τραγουδούσαν τα κάλαντα.

The custom "Lazarines", has a double character as it is identified with the coming of Spring, but also with the Resurrection of Lazarus. It is a custom where girls used to go to the fields and collect flowers, the so-called "lazarakia", small yellow daisies, with which they decorated their baskets and went from house to house and sang carols.

Παλαιότερα το έθιμο ήταν χορευτικό όπου γυναίκες φορώντας παραδοσιακές στολές χόρευαν έναν κυκλικό χορό με χαρακτηριστικά βήματα της περιοχής. Τώρα τα κορίτσια, οι Λαζαρίνες, λένε απλά τα κάλαντα. Εισπράττουν μικρό φιλοδώρημα, χρήματα, αυγά, φρούτα ή άλλα φαγώσιμα.

In the past, the custom was dance where women wearing traditional costumes danced a circular dance with characteristic steps of the area. Now the girls, the Lazarines, just say the carols. They received a small tip, money, eggs, fruit or other food.

Στα Τρίκαλα και στην Ελασσόνα, (Θεσσαλία), τα αυγά που συγκέντρωναν οι Λαζαρίνες από τα κάλαντα, οι μητέρες τους τα έβαφαν κόκκινα και τα κρατούσαν σε ξεχωριστό μέρος. Όταν ήθελαν να περιποιηθούν έναν επισκέπτη του πρόσφεραν από αυτά τα αυγά.

In Trikala and Elassona (Thessaly), the eggs that Lazarines collected from the carols, their mothers painted them red and kept them in a separate place. When they wanted to treat a visitor, they offered them these eggs.
