Welcome to English in the Lower School

We value reading! So, you'll find lots of opportunities to develop your enjoyment of books at RGS. Regular reading has many benefits:

- Raises your levels of self-esteem
- Builds a sense of identity
- Relieves feelings of stress
- Gives you better sleep
- Improves your vocabulary and grammar

That's why we expect students to read regularly. We have a wonderful library, full of interesting books for you to borrow during term time. We also have library lessons and several book clubs.
How Do I Use The Reading Passport?

It's simple. Choose a book, read it, then complete one of the tasks and upload it onto Showbie. Remember it is one task for one book, unless the book is over 500 words.

Passport Books are listed here by genre with links to the library website so you can reserve it. Alternatively, when you're in the library, look out for books tagged with an owl sticker

There are 6 levels in the passport - you should aim to complete one every term.

A book with 500 words or more can be used for 2 separate tasks.
