Madeira Island comparatively to Continental Portugal is located south-west of the Atlantic Ocean. Ponta do Sol is located at the south coast of Madeira Island.

At Ponta do Sol we have 4 churches:

- " Igreja Nossa Senhora da Luz " in the village, which was built at the end of the XV century. This is an Manueline architectural style churche.

- " Igreja da Lombada " which was built in the XVII century and has a baroque style.

From Lisbon to Funchal, it is necessary to fly 977 km, arriving by airplane in 1hour and 30 minutes.

Ponta do Sol is a small municipality, with 8862 residents.

- " Igreja Nossa Senhora da Piedade " in Canhas was built in the XVIII century and has a baroque style.

At Ponta do Sol we have the museum " Centro Cultural John dos Passos ", which is a historical museum and where we also have a theater.

There is a bridge at Ponta do Sol. " Ponte Caminho Real ", which we do not know exactly how old it is. What we know is that it has been built up during the Portuguese Monarchy.

At Ponta do Sol we have some economic activities at the primary sector such as: agriculture with the production of sugar cane and banana. There is also some traditional commerce and some hotel activity too.

The historical monuments, which are more popular at Ponta do Sol are: the old Cinema building, the church of the main village, the bridge of " Caminho Real ", the pier next to the beach, the " Solar dos Esmeraldos" at Lombada and the " Palacete do Lugar de Baixo".

At Ponta do Sol you may find a variety of shops and services as follow: sport shops, drugstore, bank, bar & restaurants, clothing store, hairdressers, library and a mini supermarket called "Amanhecer"

At Ponta do Sol we do not have rivers. Their is a two "Ribeiras ", but it is not big enough to navigate. There are no nature parks, but playgrounds with swings, slides, etc .

There are very good restaurant at Ponta do Sol. The most known restaurant to teenagers is "Sol Doce", just near school. They have international food service. If you want traditional food you have to go some other places to taste "Espetada", "Lapas","Bolo do Caco" or other delicious meals.

Ponta do Sol has some other beautiful things that where not mentioned yet, for example, the beach. We have tranquility, a magnificent view and the pier " Cais da Ponta do Sol" . Our beach is a stone beach "Calhau" (no sand) which makes it special.

The " Levadas " which is a magnificent place for people to go for a walk and be in contact with nature and feel tranquility of it.

At Ponta do Sol we have some festivals. The most popular is " Festival Aqui Acolá " and the "Festival Folclore", and also have small festivities like "Carnaval " and " Santos Populares ". At Ponta do Sol we also have fairs such as "Feira da Cana de Açucar ", "Expo- Agricola " and some expositions mostly every month at " Center Cultural John dos Passos".

At Ponta do Sol we have the "Pontassolense", which is a sports association which has several sports modalities such as football, badminton, volleyball among others.

And finally the " serra", a unique place to be in contact with nature. Very well know between tourist and also very appreciated by locals that love nature contact.
