1. Mount Fuji
Without a doubt Japan's most recognisable landmark. Mount Fuji is also the country's highest mountain peak. Towering 3,776 metres this majestic and famous mountain is tall enough to be seen from Tokyo, more than 100 kilometres away.
2. Imperial Tokyo
The Imperial Palace is a must-see when visiting the nation's capital. Don't be put off by the fact that the majority of the palace is closed to the public (it's still in use by the Imperial family), as there is still enough to see simply by strolling the grounds.
3. Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park
The incredible efforts this vibrant city has made to commemorate the many victims of the world's first nuclear attack. Hiroshima has now became a symbol of lasting peace.
4. Historic Kyoto
One of Japan's most visited cities, Kyoto, attracts more than 10 million visitors per year. Most of them here to explore Kyoto's fine old streets and architecture, most of it still the same since the Imperial family took up residence here more than 1,000 years ago.
5. The Island Shrine of Itsukushima
The island of Miyajima, famous all over the world as Japan's Shrine Island. Covering an area of 30 square kilometers in Hiroshima Bay, Miyajima is best known as the home of the Itsukushima Shrine, a Shinto temple dedicated to the Princess daughters of the wind god Susanoo.

1. Rice

Rice is Japan's most important crop, and has been cultivated over the country for over 2000 years. A bowl of cooked rice is a central part of traditional Japanese meals, but the grain is also processed into several different types of products including vinegar and flour.
2. Sushi

Sushi is the most famous Japanese food. In the past, sushi was referred to as pickled fish. Now sushi can be defined as a dish containing rice which has been prepared with sushi vinegar.
3. Gyozas

Gyozas are originally from China and are now hugely popular in Japan as well. They are recognised as a staple in Japanese homes. They are usually made with garlic chives, Chinese chives and minced pork. They can be fried, boiled or deep fried, either way, they are delicious!
4. Ramen

Although it is originally a Chinese dish, the dish was introduced to Japan and become a staple of Japanese cuisine. The difference between Chinese and Japanese ramen is the soup stock. In Japan, it is made from five to forty ingredients!
Ramen itself is a noodle dish typically made with bamboo shoots, eggs, seaweed and chives.
