Christopher Columbus Journal 
August 3rd, 1492
I am Christopher Columbus and I am from Genoa Italy. After finally getting approved by King Ferdinand II, I have started my voyage to India today on the Santa Maria to find new routes to get to Asia and to spread Christianity to the Indian people. We had left from Palos de la frontera, Spain. There are many explorers on board and priests and we hope to beat other explorers to these new routes before we do.

It’s been 58 days since we have started our journey and we are further than we have ever been. We rely on our astrolabe and compass to lead us to where we are now and I hope to make it shortly in the next few days. We have already noticed some signs of land these past few hours and we are grateful for the navigational systems we have too get us there.

We have finally officially made it India with my crew and I, it was a long and hard journey but we have finally made it. We have already made many trades so far with these people that I’ve never even seen before such as new spices, foods, clothing, minerals, jewellery, and gold! I’ve got to go, my crew and I were told there is another group of these Indians down the coast who also have other goods too trade for.

I am so happy that i have made such a big discovery of this new route i have found! We have traded so much already, and I think some of this stuff I have traded for can be revolutionary for Europe and can benefit us quite a lot. Ever since I’ve been a child I’ve wanted this moment to happen my whole life, i’m going to gain so much fame after this discovery once I get back!

I’ve noticed some of our crew mates have started getting sick but I'm sure it’ll be fine we shall keep trading and exploring this land to gain us more fame. Hopefully I’ll be able too go on more explorations too find even better routes in the coming months to years.
