Alexander Graham Bell was born in 1847 in Scotland. His dad and grandpa were both speech therapists. Bell learned from them. His two brothers both died from the same lung sickness. He began teaching at a deaf school in 1868. Then the family moved to Canada.
Two years after his family moved he taught at a new deaf school. Some of his students were older than him! He married one of his students. She was named Mabel Hubbard. He became a American citizen. Soon Bell began experimenting with sound. His experiments helped him make the telephone in 1876. With this invention came the first telephone company: Bell Telephone.
They had four children. None of them were deaf. He became a wealthy man. He used his money to pay for other experiments. He also used it to help other scientists. Bell founded the science magazine, which is still read today. He made National Geographic in 1888.
