BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT CROATIA

Croatia is a Central European country.
It has a long maritime border with Italy in the Adriatic sea. The shape of Croatia is similar to a croissant. The capital city of Croatia is Zagreb. People in Croatia speak Croatian.

Croatia is bordering Slovenia to the west, Hungary to the north, Serbia to the east and Bosnia and Herzegovina to the south; the country also has a long maritime border with Italy in the Adriatic Sea. These borders total 2,028 km altogether.

ZAGREB

Zagreb is the capital city of Croatia. It's located along the Sava river, northwest of the country. It’s also near Medvednica mountain.

In the period of former Yugoslavia Zagreb was an important economic centre of the country. After Croatia declared independence from Yugoslavia, Zagreb became the capital city of Croaita.

In Zadar there is a Monument to the Sun or The Greeting to the Sun (AUDIO IN CROATIAN: Pozdrav Suncu) dedicated to the Sun. It consists of three hundred multi-layered glass plates placed on the same level as the stone-paved waterfront.

The features that visitors find most captivating are endless forests of Papuk, extending as far as the eye can see. These woods are mainly mountain beech, but there are also oak, fir and other types of trees.

The Krapina Neanderthal Museum features exhibitions about the Neanderthals and about the history of the Earth, from its origins to modern times.
