Crossing the Threshold of Books

She was an ordinary girl named Rory, who lived in a bustling city filled with hectic roads with her cat, Tim, who never failed to keep her company.
Despite her parents who were always working from dawn to dusk, Rory had never felt an ounce of loneliness. This was because she had a special secret that no one knew. . .
Rory can “enter” books! Like she had always done, Rory sat down on her bed and grabbed a book that she borrowed from her local library, which was deserted. The reason why she chose that book was that it was nameless. She thought it was very mysterious and wanted to explore the unknown.
Rory took a deep breath and laid down, book in hand as her consciousness faded slowly.
t was another boring day and a chilly night
befell a certain girl’s town.
Rory heard the splashing of water and the shrilling squawks of seagulls, something very uncommon in her town. She fluttered her eyes open and her mouth fell agape as she took in her surroundings.
She was on a pirate ship!
Containing her excitement, she waited for a screen that was only visible to her which became a habit from her previous adventures. A quest.
In a split second, the window screen revealed itself which wrote,
‘A great treasure awaits the pirates, help them reach the lush island. Head west and you shall be rewarded. Best of luck!’. Rory was ready and started to explore the huge ship.
A gruff voice suddenly rang out. “Hey! Who are you?”
Rory turned around and saw a buff man, holding a frayed broom. She stuck out her hand and said, “The name’s Rory. I’m the new member of the crew!” The man looked at her suspiciously but he still shook her hand.
She was on a pirate ship!
Containing her excitement, she waited for a screen that was only visible to her which became a habit from her previous adventures. A quest.

Unexpectedly, he shrugged nonchalantly and agreed to take her in on the spur of the moment. Satisfied, Rory asked him to take her to the ship's captain, but the man cowered in fear and objected to her request, which drew an exasperated sigh from Rory.
“Fine, I’ll look for the captain myself,” she said bravely.
Just as she made her way through, a familiar, tall, cat-like boy loomed over her, claiming he was the captain. Arching an eyebrow, she took a good look at him, wondering why the big man was afraid of him.
Thinking nothing of it, she said, “I’m Rory, and I can help you find the treasure, you just need to trust me,”
But the Captain doubled over which made Rory blushed in embarrassment.
“And why should I do that?” he drawled, shaking his head.
“Fine, I’ll look for the captain myself,” she said bravely.
Just as she made her way through, a familiar, tall, cat-like boy loomed over her, claiming he was the captain. Arching an eyebrow, she took a good look at him, wondering why the big man was afraid of him.
Thinking nothing of it, she said, “I’m Rory, and I can help you find the treasure, you just need to trust me,”
But the Captain doubled over which made Rory blushed in embarrassment.
“And why should I do that?” he drawled, shaking his head.
Just as she was about to retort back, the whole ship shook and the ocean became frantic. With wide eyes, both Rory and the Captain darted to the edge of the ship and looked down in fright.
To their horror, a shiver of sharks awaited their dinner with their black beady eyes and wide agape mouths, showing dangerously sharp teeth.
The Captain yelled at his crew to prepare the cannons which they hurriedly obeyed, however, when they were ready to launch the projectiles, the artillery was not working! The Captain unsheathed his sword, contemplating his impulsive decision.
He slunk down in despair, knowing that he could not defeat the sharks in the restless ocean. Rory gritted her teeth and silently wished she could help the helpless boy.

She was as shocked as he was but she quickly regained her composure and handed him a gun. With no time to spare, everyone gathered around and brought down the huge sharks.
The pirates cried tears of joy and hugged Rory and the Captain, almost crushing the poor adolescents! Rory felt so relieved her legs almost gave out.
In the moment of bliss, Rory suddenly remembered what she was supposed to do and quickly told the Captain to steer towards the west, where the treasure lies. Even though the Captain was skeptical about how the guns appeared out of thin air, he was still thankful for her help and nodded briskly.
A few hours before the sun sets, they have finally arrived on the mentioned island. “Are you secretly a fairy, Rory?” said the Captain, still in disbelief that what she had said was true. Rory laughed and just shrugged her shoulders timidly. They got off the ship and onto the shore, hunting for the treasure.
The pirates cried tears of joy and hugged Rory and the Captain, almost crushing the poor adolescents! Rory felt so relieved her legs almost gave out.

A few hours before the sun sets, they have finally arrived on the mentioned island. “Are you secretly a fairy, Rory?” said the Captain, still in disbelief that what she had said was true. Rory laughed and just shrugged her shoulders timidly. They got off the ship and onto the shore, hunting for the treasure.
When the night arrived, they had already dug up the treasure chest which was almost twice the size of Rory. Everyone stood there in awe and capered in euphoria of finding such a huge valuable treasure. They all expressed their gratitude to Rory by celebrating by the campfire and had a small feast, everyone had a blast.
Sadly, Rory knew she was nearing the end of the story and had to go home. She solemnly told the pirates that she was leaving and they begged her not to go.
The window screen has appeared once again, indicating her leave. Before she left, the pirates gave her a dainty pearl necklace as a goodbye gift.
The Captain stayed silent throughout the time and Rory went to say her farewell. “Goodbye, Mister Captain,” she grinned cheekily and started to slowly disappear in which the Captain yelled, “My name is Tim!”, surprising Rory who was slowly in a daze.
Sadly, Rory knew she was nearing the end of the story and had to go home. She solemnly told the pirates that she was leaving and they begged her not to go.
The window screen has appeared once again, indicating her leave. Before she left, the pirates gave her a dainty pearl necklace as a goodbye gift.
