Students will be place in groups of four. I will place a picture of a topic such as a dog, dancer, football or etc. Students will create a cinquain poem of the picture they selected.
I can read My Dog is as Smelly as Dirty Socks and discuss examples of figurative language with a partner by using 360 Words Move It! Make It! Mean It! strategy.
Students will listen to the video Easy as Pie and then listen to the teacher read My Dog is as Smelly as Dirty Socks and discuss a simile or two together.
I can listen about comparing and contrasting two topics in a text by using Pro Con Improv strategy.
Students will listen to the brainpop video together and can follow along using the handout. I will ask the students How did I write my compare and contrast sentences? Students should respond that you read the story and identified things that were similar and different between dogs and cats. Then, you used compare key words to write a sentence about their similarities and you used contrast key words to write a sentence about their differences.
