Confusion over recent Wedding Announcement
A strange development follows on from Egius of Athens’s recent announcement in these pages. Demetrius, engaged to his daughter Hermia, now declares his love for his previous fiancee Helena and rejects Hermia.
Mr Harrington’s Company have recently announced that they will be performing something a little out of the ordinary in the coming weeks. Francis Harrington refused to elaborate when The News of the Globe asked him for comment, but hinted at a significant new repertoire which would have the audience flocking from his rivals at The Globe and packing out The Ship instead.
Even more strangely, Lysander, who was always in love with Hermia, and had previously begged Egius to let him marry her in place of Demetrius, now also declares his love for her friend Helena. Such unexpected rivalry for the hand of Helena has taken many by surprise, and we only hope that the friends and lovers can find a solution to this confusing situation and each find the happiness they seek.
There have been rumours of a shake-up amongst Harrington’s Men of late, and hints of new actors and writers brought in to rejuvenate what had become a rather stale repertoire. We look forward to seeing what is offered, and whether it will help in Mr Harrington’s widely known ambition to become the foremost company of players in London.
Spoiler alert!

ADVERT Travelling players for hire
Noble and discerning readers of the News of the Globe, we - Denmark’s finest company of players - beseech the pleasure of performing before you and your courts, if it please you. We are a long established company, tragedians of the city, who have suffered, along with your own English playhouses, from the current rash of children’s companies which have sprung up in every city, and whose youthful voices and angelic countenances have so become the fashion that a troupe of well-versed and experienced actors are hard put to secure patronage. We cannot compete with such shrill rivals in our own city, so have taken to the road to try and improve our fortunes.

We have a formidable reputation, and were recently accounted by Polonius - chief adviser to the King of Denmark himself, in whose halls we have performed more than once - as:

“The best actors in the world, either for tragedy, comedy, history, pastoral, pastoral-comic, historical-pastoral, tragical-historical, tragical-comical-historical-pastoral, scene individual or poem unlimited.”

Allow us to perform for your pleasure - you will not be disappointed.
Othello appoints new lieutenant
Othello has announced that he has made his decision regarding his new Lieutenant, and that this position will go to Michael Cassio. A relative newcomer to Othello’s command, Cassio is a slightly surprising appointment, as many had predicted it would go to his faithful adjutant Iago, whose length of service and experience far outweigh than that of the younger man. Iago, moreover, came with the recommendation of three esteemed men of Venice, making it more surprising that the position should go to his rival Cassio. However Othello is accorded an excellent judge of character, and we hope Cassio prospers in his new position. Iago has been unavailable for comment.

Verona feud claims lives
Are we the only ones to have noticed that Duke Orsino has an apparent rival for the affections of Lady Olivia, in the person of no other than the youth he sends to woo her on his behalf? It has been noticed how she lights up in the company of Cesario, and admits him to her company again and again, when before she would see no-one. The Duke seems oblivious and continues to send his young emissary to woo her, but we wonder if he would continue to do so if he could see how eagerly he was received.

Cesario assures The News of the Globe that we are mistaken and he is in no way a rival for his master the Duke in this regard. While acknowledging that the Lady Olivia is indeed beautiful and virtuous, he imparts that his affections are already engaged elsewhere, to a person who knows nothing of their intensity.
King Duncan names his successor
There has been much speculation of late as to whom King Duncan of Scotland will appoint as his successor. Rivals for his crown may now lay their curiosity to rest, with his recent announcement that it will be his eldest son, Malcolm, who will inherit his estate and succeed him to the throne. He has made him Prince of Cumberland, in recognition of this. We wish King Duncan a long and prosperous reign, and will welcome his successor when that time comes.
