Last Saturday Mrs Grace Wintorpe held a tea dance in the gardens of the Grand Hotel in Cairo. The guests were entertained by Gaston Mercier’s Palm Court Orchestra, and some lively dancing took place. Afternoon tea was served on the lawns, with sandwiches, cakes, biscuits and ices, and the finest Imported champagne.

CAMEL RACE IN THE DESERT

Last week visitors to the area were lucky enough to watch a Bedouin camel race held by Sheik Al-Wari to celebrate the marriage of his eldest son. Twenty camels were raced over a four mile stretch of desert close to Cairo. The camels were decorated in bright colours, and stood out against the desert sand as they raced across the dunes. The race was won by a cousin of the groom, and the wedding celebrations could be heard going on late into the night.
